[Kathryn]

After making her rounds, she went back near Private McGowan's cot, scribbling on her clipboard and checking things off. She glanced up at him to see if he was asleep or not.

"Oh, now that just ain't right. Eatin' Chinese food on Thanksgiving?" Teddy said with a shake of his head. "Uh uh. You should come eat with me and my family."

He wasn't asleep, just laying there looking angry. He noticed her standing near his bed, and rolled his head back to look at her, frowning. "You done pretendin' not to care about me yet?"

Maggie stopped walking, looking at him with raised eyebrows. "You...you want me to come home with you for Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving in two days, Thanksgiving?" He looked at him skeptically, clearing thinking he's delusional. Or just way too nice.

[Mush]

Kathryn sighed, lowering her clipboard and moving nearer to him. "Private, that's not true. I care about you, I care about all the soldiers in here." She knew that probably wasn't the right thing to say.

Teddy cleared his throat, blushing a bit. "Well, yeah. I mean, I'm lucky enough to have Thanksgiving dinner, I just want to return the favor..."

Tyler snorted, sitting up and swinging his legs over the edge of the bed so he was facing her, perched on the edge. "Now ya know for damn well that's not what I meant. And stop callin' me 'Private.' I have a name." He frowned at her. If it were up to him, no one would ever call him 'Private' ever again.

She smiled up at him. "What favor, Teddy? All I did was take you to a chili restaurant. You don't owe me anything." She took a small step closer to him, lifting her hand up to press it to his cheek gently. "You know...for someone just home from a war zone, you're awfully sweet."

[Kathryn]

"Yes, I know," Kathryn murmured, fixing her eyes on her clipboard once more.

"I just meant, I felt like I should pay it forward, you know? I'm one of the few guys who got to come home for the holidays. And if I can make someone else as happy as I was when I found out, I'll do it. It's only right." His cheek burned where she touched him. It was probably because the only females he'd seen lately were the nurses in the clinic. And they were too busy to spend time with uninjured soldiers.

He nearly growled, snatching the clipboard from her. "Dammit, Kathryn, look at me, wouldja!" He took a shaky breath, raking a hand through his hair. He tossed the clipboard onto his bed, then looked up at her with pleading eyes. "Kat, you're the only thing keepin' me sane here...don't go all icy on me now..."

She bit her bottom lip, but smiled at him. She trailed her fingers along his brow, touching his hair. "Your parents are gonna flip if you show up with me. I'm a mess. And a hippie." She gave a short laugh, smirking.

[Mush]

Kathryn stepped up to him, lowering her voice so she wouldn't wake any of the sleeping soldiers. "I'm still on duty. I'm a nurse, for heaven's sake. I came here to help, Tyler, to serve my country. I didn't come here to find a boyfriend."

Tyler sighed, reaching for her. He stood up off the bed, wincing a little, looking down at her as he put a hand on her arm. "So ya didn't go lookin' for it. That's fine. Doesn't mean ya gotta turn yer back on me because I wasn't in yer plans."

[Kathryn]

Teddy laughed, though he felt like he couldn't move as she touched him lightly. "My mom won't care. But...it'd probably be a good idea not to mention any protests around my father..."

Maggie scrunched her nose at him, laughing. "I promise." She bit her lip again, the way she always did when she was nervous. "Teddy? I'm going to kiss you now, ok?"

[Mush]

Kathryn shook her head furiously, biting her lip. "No, you should sit down." She helped him back on the bed before taking a seat next to him. "Tyler..." she sighed. "I don't think it's a good idea. If I get distracted, I could screw up and who knows what could happen..."

Teddy's eyes widened. "O-okay."

He couldn't help but smile a little at her, his hand going to sit on her knee. "Well, Sugar, I'm flattered ya think I have so much power over you, but ya know that ain't true. Yer damn good at yer job, ain't nothin' gonna change that."

"Okay..." She licked her bottom lip, meeting his eyes. She framed his face in her hands, leaning up on her toes. She hesitated just a second, then pressed her lips to his, kissing him slowly.

[Kathryn]

Kathryn just sighed again, looking away from him and thinking about anything and everything. The ways it could work, the ways it could go wrong...

Teddy kissed her back, sliding his hands around her waist before resting them on the small of her back. It usually was pretty uncouth to kiss like this out in public, but he was still in his uniform. Everyone around them would think they were a reunited couple just happy to see each other after so long.

Tyler watched her think a minute, then angled himself towards her. "Kathryn...Kat...look at me..." He lifted a hand to her cheek, turning her head towards him. "If ya don't want me, just say so."

Maggie kissed him like that for another moment, then pulled back just enough to breath. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled up at him. She nudged her nose against his gently, lips brushing against his again. "Walk me to my motel? I can get my bag."

[Mush]

Kathryn was tempted to say she didn't, but she couldn't lie to him or herself. So she stayed silent, her wide eyes gazing into his.

"Y-yeah. Okay." Teddy walked along with her, almost in a daze. Did that just happen?
