Ershey let out a relieved sigh as the last customer walked out of her cafe. After a year of starting up the place, she was quite proud of how far her business had come. It had enough regulars to keep her busy yet small enough that she could have conversations with each one of them. After cleaning up, Ershey made her way towards the park, anxious as to why Mush wanted to meet with her right away.

Mush nervously pulled at his shirt, hoping he looked okay. Nothing much, really, had changed in his life; he was still working for Joseph Pulitzer. Except now he was actually working in The World building. He still did just administration work, but it paid a sight better than being a newsie ever did.
He was mighty glad it did, however, as he felt the small box in his pocket. He let out a nervous sigh as he spotted Ershey walked toward him.

Spotting Mush, Ershey grinned widely as she ran up to hug him. "Hey there," she smiled, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before pulling away. "How was work?"

"The same," he replied with a nervous laugh. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, one hand stuck in his pocket to make sure the box was still there...
"Ersh, I, uh..." he took her hands in his and let out a shaky breath. "You know I love you more than anything, more than anyone."

He smiled bashfully, looking quickly down at his shoes before meeting her eyes again.
"I wanna spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me, Adrianne?" He took the box out of his pocket and opened it, revealing a gold ring with a small, but tasteful diamond.

Ershey gasped, her hands covering her mouth as she stared at the ring then back at Mush. She stood there for a couple seconds, completely shocked by his question. She chuckled softly, reaching over to touch Mush's shoulder and nodded.
"Yes," she said breathlessly. "Oh, Teddy, of course!"

Even though Mush basically knew she would say 'yes,' he still let out a huge sigh of relief. Proposing was just too nervewracking, no matter who you asked!
He took the ring out of the box and slipped it gingerly onto her left ring finger before picking her up into his arms.

Ershey's smile was permanently attached to her face as she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly.
"I love you," she whispered in his ear, still a bit loss for words. "I really wasn't expecting this..."

"Okay, maybe just a little bit," she laughed, pulling back to admire her ring. She giggled playfully as she hugged him once again. "We're engaged!"

Mush smiled against her lips briefly before concentrating on the kiss, holding her tightly in his arms. He didn't care they were in the park; it was getting dark, and there weren't as many people around, anyways.

Ershey returned his kiss, feeling elated at the fact that they were going to get married. It still seemed surreal despite being together for years since they met as newsies at Tibby's. But it didn't matter, she was happy and there was no hiding it. ((Fast forward to wedding?  ) |
