Name: Katherine (Kate) Murphy.
NN (if applicable): Calliope or Callie for short.
Age: 16
Date and place of birth: October 3rd, 1883 on Batavia Street on the Lower East Side.
Personality: Shy and quiet at first, but if needed she will come up from the shadows and stick up for anything she believes in, and if someone she knows, not necessarily loves, is endangered, she'll fight for them. Is sarcastic, and has a great sense of humor. Is clever, but left school at around 14, and doesn't force it on people. Gets annoyed very easily at blatant rudeness.
Hobbies and interests: Will spend much of the sales day escaping to the library to read, or sitting on a bench spending the day reading the papers she's supposed to sell. Loves dancing, especially the Irish dances her father taught her when she was a kid, and to the music her grandfather used to play on the calliope.
Bad habits, criminal record, etc: Smokes when nervous, but no criminal record to speak of.
Employment: Newsgirl, but makes very little money doing so.
Background info (please include family as well): Calliope was born to an Irish father and Italian mother, and conceived out of wedlock. Shunned by their families, the Murphys lived in the streets down by the seaport on the Lower East Side. Though they were married by the time Calliope was born, neither family would forgive them. They caught cholera when Calliope was two, and passed on, leaving Calliope in her maternal grandfather's care. After he died, she was sent to St. Joseph's to live with the sisters, in her grandfather’s hope to "keep her out of sin". When she was 15, she met a young newsboy outside the church, who happened to be Anthony Higgins, a friend from her childhood. She ran away with him, and has been a newsie ever since.
