Personality: Proudly more than just what Race called him ("glum and dumb"). Opinionated, realistic, but often a jokester just when the moment calls for it. He'll pass the towel, or at least, for a buck he might.
Hobbies and interests: Sneaking into art galleries, sketching, "borrowing" books from any of the other lodging house residents, betting against Racetrack, etc.
Bad habits, criminal record, etc: Notoriously busted with everyone else during the rally at Irving Hall, but for the most part has kept his nose clean. His realistic attitude can easily come across as pessimistic and/or grouchy, which is often why Racetrack gives him such a hard time.

Background info (please include family as well): Parents lived in upstate New York and were both intellectuals. He dreamed of being a college professor like his dad until he was orphaned after a house fire. He ran away to the city and quickly made a buck or two from hawking papes. Most likely gained his nickname from the newsies pronouncing his last name oddly.
