Maggie strolled along with him, stopping at a rose bush to smell a flower. "I enjoy reading and music. I'm rather good at needlepoint." She nearly smirked. "Raven's bored by those sorts of things. She teases me. Says I'm a simple woman."
~~
Tyler narrowed his eyes right back of her, leaning towards her, voice low. "I won't allow you to ruin our lives this way, Raven. We could be happy, if you allowed it. We've always been destined for each other, regardless of what you say. There's no point in protesting."

"There is nothing wrong with being simple, Raven likes things that would snap her neck. When we were younger I secretly taught her how to use a sword...I am starting to regret that decision." He said with a smirk.
~
"I am so glad that you see it that way Tyler," Raven said with an exasperated sigh, "However, I don't. Our lives won't be ruined, don't be so dramatic. I don't love you and haven't in quite awhile. This marriage of ours is merely to secure my property and to produce heirs. I'll do my duty. Don't fret." She patted his shoulder. "Don't be so desperate to win my favor, I truly dislike near everyone I meet." She smirked at him.

She couldn't help but laugh, turning to him, face bright with amusement. "So you're the one to blame, then. She convinced me to spar with her once. She ripped my dress."
~~
"You never disliked me, Raven. And I've always been rather fond of you, myself." He let himself lift a hand to her hair, fingering a bit of it gently. "You've grown a bit."

"It's my fault entirely," He said with a laugh, "I should teach you as well so that you can fight her off."
~
"I'm not longer a little girl, I'm twenty," She said and jerked her face away. "Tyler...we are entirely different people now. I don't plan to hate you forever." She sighed heavily. "I just don't know if I can love you again. I was so young."

"I'm afraid it's likely I'd make a full of myself." She scrunched her nose at him cutely. "Raven wishes she'd been born a boy. I rather like being a girl, myself."
~~
Tyler watched her a minute, quiet. Then, finally said: "At least let me try, Raven. Let me try to show you that I've changed, too. I've grown up." He touched her hair again, because he liked the feel of it between his fingers.

"She's a smart girl, but she would have more power if she was male, the reason she has to marry is to keep her land otherwise I doubt she would marry at all." Tristan said with a sigh, "no man will let a woman rule them and she knows this."
~
"Fine, you can try, try as hard as you like." Raven said and then rolled her eyes. "Will you stop that?" She referred to the way he was twirling her hair.

Maggie bit her lip. "I suppose I don't understand, since I have no property to my name. As a lady-in-waiting, I'm not allowed to marry much higher than my station."
~~
Tyler smirked at her, not stopping. He went so far as to brush his thumb along her cheek. "You always had the prettiest hair. All that lovely black."

"This is very true," Tristan said and then shrugged "but sometimes miracles do happen, take Lady Elmsworth, her father was a cobbler, yet she married into a great family. It was a terrible scandal but ended well." He smiled at her.
~
Raven couldn't help but laugh, "my hair? Truly?" She couldn't deny she loved being complimented. She didn't move her face away from his touch.

Maggie smiled at him. "That's true. You're a kind man, Tristan." She turned to smell a rose, keeping her voice casual. "I'm sure your own lady feels very lucky to have you..."
~~
"Yes, your hair." He flashed her a smile. "I always imagined yo as some foreign gyspy, sent to cast a spell on me. I still think you have cast a spell."

"What lady? I have none," he said with a shrug. "Its hard to find one when you're constantly on the move,"
~
"Now you're just saying things to win my favor," she shook her head. "I must say you've gotten better at it over the years,"

Maggie tried not to look as pleased as she felt, only turning back to him with a small smile. "Well, when you find one, she'll be very lucky."
~~
Tyler smirked. "There are many things I've improved at over the years, Raven." He took her hand, lifting it to his mouth, kissing her knuckles.

"Are you? That is a great deal nicer than I usually hear, apparently I'm a brute." He said with a slight laugh.
~
"Oh really? I suppose you are set to show me?" She questioned him, smirking mischeviously.

Maggie laughed, touching her fingers to his arm gently. "You don't seem like much of a brute to me. You're just...strong." She bit her lip.
~~
"If you'd let me, I would." Tyler sent her a charming smile. "Walk with me, Raven. Out to the meadow." His thumb traced along her jaw, then over her lips.

Tristan laughed, "Not so terribly strong, just good with a sword, that's all. I've trained my whole life to get that way." He said. "Will you be accompanying Lady Raven to my lord's castle after they wed?"
~
Raven quirked an eyebrow at him, and then nodded her consent. She stepped down into the courtyard and waited for him to offer her his arm.

Maggie nodded. "I will." She tilted her face up a him, looking a little hopeful. "Will you be there, Tristan?" She wanted him to be, if only just to look at him.
~~
Tyler took her hand instead, the way they used to do as children. He threaded his calloused fingers with her soft ones, liking the feeling of her hand in his as they walked to the fields.
