Ershey grabbed another paper from her stack, held her hand up in the air and yelled out another headline. Within a couple of minutes, she'd already had one customer. Exchanging the paper for the coin, Ershey grinned and walked over to Mush. "Hey. Today's actually not so bad... how you doin'?"

Mush had just sold a paper to an old lady; he flashed her his most winning smile, and she had pinched his cheek.
"Hey, I'm doin' pretty good! I think the headline about the headless body found in the Bronx is really gettin' people interested. Especially since I've told them it was walking around..." he winked at her.

"You always come up with the best things," she chuckled, poking his nose playfully. "Wanna get rid of these together?"

"Yeah, sure!" Mush replied excitedly. They usually didn't sell together, but he loved it when they did. He hawked the headless body headline again and sold another three papers.

Ershey grinned happily, glad to have Mush by her side. It always made selling so much more fun. She sold her last paper when spotted a girl eyeing Mush not too far away. Ershey frowned and glanced at Mush.

Mush still had a few papers left and hawking a headline about William Randolph Hearst's scandalous affair. The girl Ershey had spotted came trotting up to him, a seemingly innocent smile on her face.

"I'll take one of those," grinned the girl, smiling sweetly as she handed him a dime. "I usually walk by here everyday... I've never seen you here before."
Ershey's eyes widened. The girl was actually trying! Her jaw tightened as she watched Mush, wondering what'll happen next.

"Oh, that's weird. I usually sell here," Mush told her, handing her the paper. "Let me get some change for you," he said as he rummaged around in his pockets.

"I'm sure I would've noticed you earlier," she grinned, taking another step towards him.
Ershey cleared her throat, finally stepping in and shooting the girl a death glare. "Need change, babe?"

"No, I got it, thanks." Mush shot Ershey a smile before handing the girl nine pennies.
"I'm sure you've seen before, you've just forgotten," he said, chuckling.

"I'm Ashley," the girl grinned, taking the pennies and putting them in her pocket.
"And I'm Ershey," quickly interrupted Ershey as she held out her hand shot her a look. "His girlfriend."

Mush looked at Ershey with confusion. Why did she look so annoyed?
"Uh...I'm Mush," he said, blushing a bit.

Ashley glanced at Ershey's hand, ignored it and smiled back at Mush in return. "Awww, Mush, that's cute! How'd you get that nickname? Newsie nicknames are so much fun."
Ershey practically growled, her hand clenching into a fist. If only Mush wasn't so clueless about these things...

Mush blushed even more, chuckling nervously. "Well, 'cause my brain kinda...turns to mush when I'm around pretty girls."

"Like now?" she grinned, flashing him a smile.
"Mush!" muttered Ershey angrily, tugging his arm so that they could leave. The longer they stayed, the more Ershey wanted to punch the girl's face to the ground.
