He grinned and draped his arm around her, letting the cards lie on the roof in their half-shuffled state. "I agree."

Sapphy forgot her mission rather effortlessly with that bit of contact. She smiled and melted into Race, letting out a soft breath. She closed her eyes and smelled the tobacco on him.

Race couldn't bring himself to ask about Script and her nervous reaction to Sapphy's name. It might be nothing, after all, and this moment was too precious to lose. He sat there holding her, face buried in her hair, and almost believed that things finally could go back to normal.

"I have plenty to be sorry for. I'm no fun to be around, I'm moody, I'm making you worry... I haven't been the best girlfriend." She was too nervous to meet Racetrack's eyes as she spoke.

He took her hand and shook his head, dismissing that last comment. "You're usually fun to be around, Sapph. You don't have to be fun all the time. You're allowed to have your ups and downs. And if they're a little extreme, well--I knew that when we got together." He tilted her chin toward him, trying to catch her eye. "I don't mind worrying sometimes if it means I get to be with you. I'm not sorry for any of it."
