Firecracker wandered into Tibby's and made her way through the sea of crowded tables to the back corner of the restaurant. She spotted and empty table and sat down, burying her face into a menu. She had been in the area for a little longer now, and yet she still felt like a complete stranger in her own neighborhood.

Race came into Tibby's just to grab a bite on his way to the tracks, but he spotted a girl who looked familiar and a little lost. So he smiled and walked over to greet her. "Hey, ain't I seen you 'round the lodging house? Racetrack Higgins." He offered his hand.

Fire looked up at the boy and smiled slowly. She extended her hand and took his, shaking it quickly. "Yeah, I'm kinda new. The name's Firecracker, nice to meet you."
She was about to return to her menu, but soon noted that the restaurant looked a little.... packed. Finding a seat would be hard and, since she didn't want to seem rude, she decided to invite him to sit with her. "Would you like to sit down?"

He didn't want to intrude, but then he too noticed how crowded the place was--and since he was kind of starving, why pass up a seat? "Thanks," he said, smiling and pulling out a chair. "Don't let me bother you, I'm on my way down to Sheepshead. Just thought I'd grab lunch first."

Quickly, Fire shook her head, not wanting to make him feel like he was interrupting anything. "It's fine," she assured him, "better than eating alone."
She returned her attention to the menu briefly before setting it back down. "Going to Sheepshead? Can't say I've ever gone out there. Not much of a gambler."

"That's prob'ly for the best," Race admitted ruefully. "I hardly ever win out there, but somehow, I keep coming back. I should really just stick to papes and cards."
