Their parents, while pursuing the American Dream, sold most of their possessions in order to afford steerage tickets on a steamship to America. During the crossing, their parents were stricken with a serious illness and did not survive. Not one to turn around in defeat, Pasha decided that he and his sister would continue with the immigration process and try to start a new life in America.
