Pasha stepped quietly into the lobby of the lodging house, stopping just inside the doorway. He looked around the room slowly, his forehead wrinkling as he visually inspected it for anything that might signify that it was a less-than-decent place to live. Finally satisfied, he took another step in and looked over his shoulder, motioning for his sister to follow him inside. "Come, Sveta," he whispered quietly.
His sister followed him inside, her eyes wide as she looked around the empty lobby. This was far from the accomodations that they had been told about back home. Did they really leave their home, their family, everything, for this? "Pasha...." she began, but was quickly cut of by her brother's sharp glare.
"Nyet, Sveta," he said in reply. He motioned for her to sit on the nearby couch while he wandered over to the desk to sign them both in.

((hope this wasn't reserved for anyone else! )) Tag came quietly down the stairs, her book tucked under her arm. She was on her way to the library to return it, but she couldn't find Specs anywhere... When she reached the lobby, she froze. New people.

((Nope, not at all, glad you jumped in! )) Pasha heard footsteps coming down towards the lobby and looked up right as he was in the middle of signing them both in. "Hello," he said quickly, briefly regarding the girl before returning his attention to the ledger. Svetlana's eyes lit up at the sight of this other lodger. There were other girls here, too? Right away, she decided that she liked this place better than the last one they had wandered into. At least this time, her brother wouldn't be breathing down her neck as much! "Hello!" She said cheerily, her voice still soft.

"H-hi," Tag replied shyly, still frozen in place. She hugged her book to her chest as she observed them. Probably brother and sister; they looked too much alike to be together in any other way. "Are...are you new?" Of course they're new, Tag. Way to state the obvious!

"Da, we are," Svetlana replied, her head nodding. She had waited for her brother to answer but he just stood there in silence, his eyes carefully studying the ledger as if there were some hidden instructions inside. "I am Svetlana. And this is my brother, his name is --"
"Pasha," he replied, cutting his sister off. Satisfied with the ledger's contents, he looked away from it and returned his attention to the other girl. "Is there someone in charge here?"

"Y-yes, his name is Kloppman...but we can never find him," Tag explained, shuffling her feet around nervously. By the sound of their accents, they were also foreigners. Tag was from England, herself, and it was always nice to meet people from another country besides America. Even if it wasn't your own country. "I'm sorry, would you mind if I asked where you're from?"

"Moscow," Pasha replied, a dissatisfied look on his face. What good was a manager if he could never be found? Now how was he supposed to ensure that his sister was being properly taken care of?
"That's in Russia," Svetlana added, despite the obviously-displeased look on her brother's face. She looked over at the other girl and smiled a little bit. She didn't sound like most of the other people they had met during their short time in America, either. "You... you are not from New York, yes?"

Tag cleared her throat, trying to tamp down her annoyance. Of course she knew where Moscow was! She was an educated young lady. But they didn't know that, of course. "I'm from London. England."

"England?" Svetlana asked, unable to hold back a smile. "I have heard such nice things about England. Are they true?"
Pasha rolled his eyes at his sister's involvement in this conversation. Some girl, he decided, simply talked too much -- his sister included. "Sveta," he said gruffly, "I am going out. You stay until I come back." He walked past the two girls and towards the front door, in search of a sitff drink and girls that didn't talk too much.
Svetlana's face fell as she watched her brother walk out of the lobby and into the city streets. "I am sorry about him," she apologized. "He does not like to talk much."

Tag let out a nervous chuckle. "Oh, that's all right. I'm shy, too," she divulged to the girl - what was her name again? Svetlana? She watched the boy leave before turning her attention back to Svetlana. "But, yes, England is lovely."

"That is what I have heard," Svetlana said with a nod. She wrung her hands together nervously, her eyes focused on a hole in the floor. "Have you been in New York for very long?"

"About two and a half years. Yourself?" Tag sat down on the couch with her, her back ramrod straight.

"Three months," Svetlana replied sadly, her shoulders slumping ever so slightly. "It feels like forever."

"Where were you before you came here? If you don't mind my asking, of course..." Tag sent her a sheepish smile, letting out a soft, nervous chuckle.

"Another house, further uptown," Svetlana answered, smiling up at the other girl. Well, she seemed nice enough! "Before that, another one." She shrugged and slumped into the couch. "My brother, he chooses where we stay. If he does not like it, we leave."
