"Well, I'm sure you'll like it here. Everyone is very friendly," Tag told her, a shy smile coming across her face. "I'm Lillian, by the way, but everyone calls me Tag. Most everyone in the house has a nickname. It's a newsie thing."

"Lillian?" Svetlana asked, smiling up at the other girl. "That name, it is nice. I like it." She paused, briefly chewing on her lower lip. "Do I need to have a, what did you say? Nickname? I do not have one."

Tag pursed her lips in thought. "No, I guess you don't need one. But the newsies here will probably give you one anyways."

Tag nodded, her curls bouncing around her shoulders. "Yes, it's usually based on your personality or a habit of yours or something. Like mine, people started calling me Tag Along because that's what I would do; I would just tag along everywhere with everybody. And my boyfriend, he's Specs because he wears glasses. Then there's Jack Kelly - he's basically the leader of the newsies in Manhattan - everyone calls him Cowboy because he's obsessed with Santa Fe and wears a cowboy hat sometimes," she explained, hoping she didn't blush too much when she talked about Jack... Not everyone needed to know about her humongous crush on him. Especially not when she had a boyfriend.

Svetlana couldn't help but smile as she watched Tag Along describe some of the newsies and their nicknames. At first, she wasn't too sure about living in yet another strange place, but in this house, they all seemed rather close. Maybe Svetlana had a shot at doing more than just sitting in a corner waiting for her brother's next order, after all!
"That sounds wonderful," she exclaimed brightly. "I hope to have a nickname like that someday."
