"I tried living on the street once," Fire commented as she slipped her arm underneath her pillow. She covered herself with her blanket before sliding closer to Wraith, accepting the other half of the spare blanket. "It didn't last long. At all. Maybe a few hours. I got back up and found my first lodging house."
She looked across at the other girl, for once not afraid to look another person in the eyes. "The only bad thing about joining the circus would be that you'd have to travel all the time."

"Yeah," Wraith agreed, a little intrigued by the idea, but mostly scared. "I've never been farther than Jersey. I think I'll probably end up looking for something closer to home," she joked with a smile, then frowned slightly. "I guess I worry about it sometimes, though. I...I've only ever done two jobs, and there's not much of a future in either of them. And I don't think I'll be finding a husband to support me," she pointed out wryly.

Fire couldn't help but laugh at Wraith's last comment, despite the fact that it was an almost-sad truth. "Well, there's Coney Island," she suggested lightheartedly. "Although, that wouldn't do much for you in the wintertime."

Wraith chuckled again, picturing herself as a carnie. She could not for the life of her remember the last time she'd laughed this much. "What about you? Any idea what you want to do?"

"Honestly? I never really thought about it," she confessed bashfully. "Usually, when I think about the future, I can never think of anything good. It always just seems to empty. Now, though, I don't know... Maybe it's time I start thinking about it."

"Things can turn out better than you expect," Wraith said softly. There'd been times when she thought she'd never survive the next day, let alone the next year. Lots of times. Yet here she was. And there had been even more times when she thought she'd never be happy again...but this, right now? This felt an awful lot like happiness.

"You took the words right out of my mouth," she replied with a smile, her voice even softer than before. "You know, I thought that coming here was going to feel more like a prison sentence. But, right now, it seems like it was just what I needed."

"It's...kind of what I needed, too," Wraith admitted, wondering if her cheeks would turn permanently pink at this rate. "I mean...I'm glad you're here. And this," she added, motioning at the roof and the bedding with a smile, "this was brilliant."
((Off to bed! <3))

"I'm glad we thought of it," she agreed, her head snuggling further into her pillow. "I don't care if I catch a cold from this, it was all worth it in my eyes."
((night! <3))

"Same here," Wraith said with a smile, and yawned. "Guess we should get some sleep..." She almost didn't want to close her eyes with all those stars shining above her, but they still had to work tomorrow.

"I guess so," Fire agreed, yawning as she buried her head deeper into her pillow. Part of her wanted to stay awake, enjoying every possible moment between the rooftop and the stars, but she knew better.
Slowly, she closed her eyes, "Goodnight, Wraith."

"'Night, Fire," Wraith said warmly, and closed her eyes, drifting into dreams that weren't nightmares for once--though they were filled with confusing images of girls she'd loved and lost and one who she'd only just met.
