He sat down across from her, taking a long gulp of the lemonade before coming back up for air. "Shit. That's fucking good."

Well, at least she'd done something right today. "I'm glad you like it." She sipped, watching him through her lashes over the rim of her glass. "I haven't seen you around here before."

"Been here a while. Since way before the strike. But I guess I don't hang around the House much. I'm kind of a nomad...lone wolf-type, you know." He nodded, his eyebrows raised. ((HA. Also kind of a d-bag. But a lovable d-bag.))

((I like them a little douchey, haha!))
She quirked her brow up at him. "Oh. Well. Lone wolf can be...good. Caring about people can make things terribly complicated." The corner of her mouth turned down a little.

((Hey, as long as their hotness overpowers it. Which his TOTALLY does.))
Oh, there was a story behind that statement. And he was awfully curious to hear it. "Why do you say that?" he asked softly, tempted to reach over to touch her hand. Girls like to comforted that way.

((AMEN.))
Her eyes flicked down to where he touched her hand, and she slipped it away from him to bring her glass back up to her lips. She took a drink before answering. "If you don't care, you can't get hurt."

((OMG. My sister and I watched Newsies last night, and we were just like "DAMN SKITTERY." We knew he was hot, but guhhhhhh.))
He pulled his hand back almost exactly the way she did. "Ain't that the truth," he muttered before drinking the rest of his lemonade.

((He's muh faaaaaavooooriiiitttteee!))
She nodded, glancing down at her lap. "I've decided to try not caring. I always care too much. I thought I'd see what it was like not to for a while."

"It's pretty great, actually," he informed her, watching her while he had the chance. "You can do whatever you want, whenever you want, and nobody's asking you questions when you get home. If you get home."

She traced her fingertip around the rim of her now empty glass, eyes following her finger. "I've always been the Good Girl. People think they can take advantage of me because I'm nice."

"People can be real fuckers," he said simply, shrugging.

((I'm so betraying Goblin by saying this, but I'm kind of rooting for these two to have a torrid affair.))

She bit her lip, glancing up at him through her lashes. A part of her felt guilty for talking to this guy. And then she had to remind herself that she was single now. Goblin had lied to her, broken her heart. It was her decision to end it, and now she had to live with that.
"Yeah. I'm starting to figure that out."

((haha, yes!! I love you, Flare.))
He decided not to tell her that sometimes it was actually lonely as hell. There were times when he'd been gone for a few days, not sleeping in the house during that time but still selling papes. Then, when he finally returned, no one had really noticed he'd been gone. It hurt pretty badly.
He shook his head to forget about those times before leaning forward in his seat. "I would be glad to introduce you to the lifestyle."

((Haha, amen to that, sister.))
She gulped a little when he got close, but she forced herself not to flinch or pull away. "I'm a pretty good student. I learn fast."
