"Maybe you'll run into me one morning," she said jokingly. "There's not a lot of newsies there... probably why you all don't see me."
She took the plate from him and started drying it with the dishcloth. Only two more and we'll be done!

Mush washed the last two dishes in silence, thinking of something he could say.
"Thanks for not, like, callin' the bulls or something. I swear I had the money earlier, I just... have a hole in my pocket." He looked over at her, finally, letting out a sigh.

Ershey took the two dishes, dried them and put them away in the cupboard. Wiping her hands on her apron, she leaned on the sink and smiled at him. "Well, thanks for helpin' me. It went by faster than just me cleanin' the place by myself. I hope I didn't keep you from anythin' important."

"Nah." He assured her, laughter in his voice.
"Do you live in the Lodging House?" He asked as he started to make his way out of the kitchen.

"Just moved in," she said, untying her apron and grabbing her things. She followed Mush out of the kitchen and began turning off the lights. "It's a good place to stay... just don't know a lot of people there yet. Well, except for some of the girls I see around, I guess."

"Well, now you know me. Kinda." He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. "Lived there for six years now."
He went over to the front door, holding it open for Ershey.

"Oh. Thanks," she said, blushing slightly as noticed Mush holding the door for her. Maybe there is hope for finding a gentleman around here in New York. "Six years, really? No wonder you were surprised to not know me."

"Yeah." Mush shoved his hands in his pockets as they walked along the sidewalk in the dark, his finger poking out of the hole.
"How many capes - I mean, papes - can you sell in a day?" Stupid question.

"Twenty on a good day? I'm really not too good at sellin' papes," said Ershey, chuckling as she put her arms around herself. "That's why I work here sometimes. How about you? I'm sure you've got the girls runnin' to buy papes from you."

Mush blushed a little, kicking a stray pebble on the sidewalk. "Nah... I've just learned how ta sell a bad headline. Experience, hard work, and maybe a little newsie education helps."

"Care to share a few tips?" she asked, grinning at him as they slowly made their way back to the lodging house.

Mush smiled to himself, glancing over at her. "Well, a lot of tips can only be shared while selling papes. 'Cause it all depends on what the headlines are and what kinda people are around. But, you just gotta make it seem like there's a twist to the story or somethin'."
After clearing his throat, he let out a shaky sigh. "Maybe... we could sell together tomorrow?"

Ershey looked at him, surprised that he suggested such an idea. She wasn't opposed to it at all but it was definitely not what she was expecting.
"R-really? You sure?" she said, still amazed.

"I mean, if you don't wanna that's okay. I just thought it might be easier if we actually sold papes together. But don't worry 'bout it." Mush said quickly, all in one breath.

"No, no, no, that's not what I meant," exclaimed Ershey, shaking her head. "No -- I mean, yes. I'd love to sell papes with you."
