Rose had finally escaped, if only for a little bit until she was sought out and forced to come back inside. She was sitting on the front steps of her grandmother's house, hugging herself to keep warm and staring at her feet. She had no idea what to think right now, no idea what to feel...

Moonshine was whistling when he approached the house, carrying a handful of roses -- yellow this time, because he thought she'd like how sunny they looked. He grinned big when he saw her, walking faster, then faltered when he noticed her body language and the look on her face. "Rosie?"

Rose jumped, a semi-horrified look on her face. "Tyler, what are you doing here?" she asked, scrambling to stand up and walk the rest of the way down the stairs to stand in front of him.

He blinked down at her. "I wanted to come see ya. See if ya wanted to go to dinner or somethin'..." He held the flowers out to her, then frowned. "What's wrong?"

Rose shook her head, her brow furrowed deeply. "Now...now's not a good time," she said, her voice shaky.

He didn't like that desperate look in her eyes. "Why not? What's wrong?"

She continued to shake her head; she didn't want Tyler to know about this. "Just go home, I'll -- I'll see you tomorrow or something."

"Rosie, what the hell?" He frowned down at her. "What are ya hidin' from me?"

"Nothing!" she exclaimed, a bit too quickly. "Nothing. Nothing you need to get involved in..." Without meaning to, she stepped up toward the door, as if to block his entrance.

He glowered at her, clenching his fist around the stems of the roses she had yet to take from him. "Yer lyin' to me. You ride my ass for sleepin' with a girl when we weren't even datin', and now we are and yer lyin' to me!"

"Tyler, please, don't -- don't yell," she pleaded, her own voice lowered. She put a hand on his arm, a desperate look on her face.

"I ain't yellin'! You'll know when I yell!" He was just raising his voice a little. "Now stop lyin' to me! What's goin' on?"

Rose's eyes filled up with tears and her voice sounded even more desperate when she spoke. "Tyler, please. Please just go. I'm begging you."

His anger ebbed the second he saw her start to cry. "Baby...aw, baby, what's wrong? What the hell is goin' on??" He dropped the roses in order to gather her in his arms.

"I don't want you to get involved," she muttered, her face buried in his chest. "Please just go home and I'll -- I'll talk to you tomorrow." That is, if all this was gone by tomorrow.
