He nuzzled against her. "Baby, please, talk to me. Tell me what's wrong. What's happenin'?" He kissed her hair, then looked up as he saw the front door open.

Rose immediately pulled away from him. "Rose, where've you been?" she heard her father ask. She didn't answer.

Moonshine turned his gaze on the man at the door. It took him only a few seconds to figure out who he was, and he glared at him darkly, pursing his lips. He kept a protective arm around Rose's shoulder.

He stared at him for a few seconds before shifting his gaze to his daughter. "Rose, I'm not going to tell you again. Come back inside. Very rude of you to leave your grandmother and me in the house to come and cavort with some hooligan, very rude indeed. I thought I raised you better than that."

Rose finally turned toward Moonshine, no more tears in her eyes. Just fear. "Tyler, please," she said under her breath. "Just go. "Excuse me, I don't want to have to repeat myself again," he said sternly, taking Rose's upper arm.

"Young man, I don't know who you think you are, but if you don't leave this property in the next thirty seconds, I will call the police," he said, his fists clenched at his sides. "No one tells me what I can and can't do when my daughter is concerned."

"Hey!" he yelled, walking a few steps down toward them. "You get back here!"
Rose took a deep breath before breaking into a run, pulling Tyler with her, her heart already racing.

He kept up with her easily, even moving faster and tugging her along at one point until they reached the House.
