Cav distracted himself with a kitten so he wouldn't have to look at Goblin. "You, uh...know a guy named Skittery?"

"I know everyone, Cav," Goblin reminded him warily, his heart already sinking, if possible, even further. He reminded himself that Maggie could do whatever she wanted. She deserved to be happy. She deserved someone better. It was probably just a rebound thing, anyway. But...but... "He's too...tall for her!" he muttered, looking out the window so Cav wouldn't see his expression, which probably looked like he'd just been run over by a train.

Cav looked up, arching a brow at him. To his credit, he held back his smirk. "Well, Script's short..." And he wouldn't bring up the fact that Skittery wasn't much taller than he was, anyway.
He sighed. "Look, he ain't sleepin' with her, if that makes you feel better. Heard him talking to some kid in glasses. He hates you, though. Pretty sure you might get punched if you ever end up in the same room together."

"I'm pretty sure we sleep in the same room together," Goblin pointed out, flopping back onto the bed to smoke the remainder of his cigarette. The sad thing was that he deserved to get punched, and he was actually kind of glad, in a really twisted way, that someone was up for defending Script's honor. Maybe Skittery would go wipe out Eastman and his gang and this Jimmy guy while he was at it.
And then he'd be a total hero, and Script would fall into his arms and cry, and the two of them would ride off into the sunset together. "We should get drunk," he said abruptly.

((He's sooo SAAAD!))
Cav's eyebrows lifted to his hairline. "You...wanna get drunk? You wanna get drunk?"

((SO MUCH GUILT. I honestly don't know how he'll ever get over it.))
He blinked. "You do realize that I'm physically capable of drinking alcohol, right?"

((WE MUST FIND A WAY!))
He snorted. "Yeah, I'm aware. Alcohol's just not your thing. Or at least I thought it wasn't." He got up. "Come on. You need to get outta here, and if liquor'll do it, then so be it."

He crushed the stub of the cigarette under his thumb, pushed a kitten off his chest, and followed Cav out of the bunkroom. Alcohol wasn't usually his thing, because of the whole loss of control, but it wasn't like he'd been in control for the past few weeks anyway. Besides, he needed something to banish the images of whatever Script and Skittery might have been up to, whether they were sleeping together or not.

They didn't talk much as they made their way to Irving Hall. It was bigger than Cav would have liked -- he preferred dingy hole-in-the-walls -- but he was still unfamiliar with what was around here, and anyway, the booze at Irving was cheap.
He settled in at the bar and ordered a beer.

Goblin sat down beside Cav and ordered the same thing, even though he really could've gone for something stronger, because he still had enough sense to realize that getting hopelessly drunk in this state of mind was a stupid idea. "So you gave up on Footsteps, huh?"

He lifted a shoulder, frowning over his beer bottle before taking a swig. "I'm not gonna wait around for somethin' that may not ever happen. It's stupid."

"It won't ever happen if no one makes it happen," he said, downing half his drink in one gulp, which almost defeated the purpose of getting beer.
And then he remembered that someone was supposed to be him. In an especially terrible twist of irony, he'd pretty much lost all faith or interest in the plan that Script had sacrificed her happiness for in the first place. He had witnesses, he had paperwork that some other Refuge guys had found for him, he had two people waiting for his orders to go into Five Points and finish the job...he just didn't have the heart for it anymore.

He glanced over at him, then ordered them two sifters of something stronger. "I think it's a whiskey kind of night. Beer's not gonna cut it."

Goblin gave him a grateful look and sipped the remainder of the beer while he waited for the whiskey. "You know, if you want to get her out of there, you should talk to people. Don't know if you've met Risk yet, but he's got an in with the gang. Tristan knows Five Points. Hell, Gypsy and her new boyfriend could probably help they've gone rogue or whatever."
He almost felt like he was retiring from the world of crazy plans and passing his legacy onto Cav. At least one of them could do something useful. And maybe even end up happy.

((Aw, Cav's like his protege!))
He shook his head, grateful when the whiskey came and he took a healthy sip. "She won't go. And if I managed to get her released or whatever, she'd only resent me. If she wants to stay and act like some fuckin' Irish saint, I'm not gonna fight 'er."
