He took hold of her hand again, grinning at her as they walked inside. "Yup. The kind ya have to kick sometimes to make it work." He led her to his favorite booth. There was absolutely no one there except the 50-year-old waitress and the short-order cook. They were on their own.

She gazed around the place, smiling slightly. "Okay, this place is pretty awesome. And only partly because no one else is here." She looked across the table at him, eyes sparkling.

He smiled back at her as the waitress brought them menus. "Told ya you'd like it."

She looked over the menu, glancing up at him every so often. "So, Tyler McGowan, tell me about your life."

He smirked. "Not a whole lot to tell. I'm the middle kid a' five. Grew up here. Go to school at the JC here." He shrugged. "Pretty borin' actually."

"What do you study?" she asked, setting her menu down and tilting her head a bit as she looked over at him.

"History. Hopin' to transfer to State next year. Wanna focus on the Antebellum South, the Civil War and Reconstruction." He blushed, knowing his Nerd was showing. "Anyway, it ain't nothin' special." He was glad to be distracted by the waitress. "Can I get a root beer float and chili-cheese fries?"

"I'll have a cheeseburger and a root beer float, as well, thank you," she said, smiling up at the waitress. When she was gone, she turned her attention back to Tyler. "That sounds so cool... I wish I could be a real college student," she said wistfully.

He arched a brow at her, but nodded, digging in his pocket and handing her a quarter. "Yeah, here ya go."

She let out a small giggle then got up, skipping over to the jukebox. She picked a Dolly Parton song and "My Girl" by the Temptations. She also noticed one of her songs was on there. How trendy of them.

He almost gulped and his eyes went down to watch her finger. "Yeah, great...'cept for the fact that yer drivin' me kinda crazy with that...in a good way."
