Macbeth woke up in her creaky, uncomfortable bunk in Kowalski's Hostel, and she woke up even crankier than usual. As expected, she'd barely slept. She wanted tea, and there was no tea. And someone was banging on the door of the room--probably either to deliver a new assignment from Eastman or to shoot her and Risk in the head.
So she grabbed a switchblade from under her pillow and then threw the pillow at Risk to make sure he was up.

"I'm awake!" muttered Risk, bolting up from his bed and almost hitting the ceiling. He frowned when he heard the knocking on the door and immediately realized who it might be. Not even acknowledging Macbeth, he jumped down from his bunk and opened the door to see who it was.
"About time," said Sammie, raising an eyebrow at the two. "Eastman wants you two back."

"What for?" Beth muttered, deftly rolling the knife up under her hem. She hadn't brought any nightclothes to the Points with her, so she was dressed and ready to go, albeit looking quite rumpled and scruffy. She went to stand by Risk instinctively; not once throughout this whole ordeal did she intend to hang back.

"He's got something for the two of you," she replied pointedly, turning to leave. Making sure he had everything he needed, Risk nodded at Macbeth and instinctively grabbed her hand as they followed Sammie back into Eastman's headquarters.
Once they reached Eastman's office, Sammie opened the door for them as she followed them inside. "We're here," muttered Risk, facing an excited-looking Eastman.

"So I see," Eastman said with a smirk, closing the door behind the three of them. "Well, the two of you passed yesterday's little test--as you probably guessed when you survived the night. And Sammie tells me you'd like a...a more 'challenging' assignment, was it?"
He gave Macbeth his undivided attention for the first time, and she managed not to wince. "That's right," she said coolly.
"Well, here you have it. An address we've just managed to obtain." He handed Risk a slip of paper. "Genevieve Demail. Goes by Gypsy. A former employee of our friends in the House of Refuge. She mishandled her duties and was...removed from our custody before she could be properly punished. We'd like to have her back." He smiled. "Surely three bright, ambitious young people can handle such a simple task?"

"Of course," replied Sammie, smirking at Eastman before glowering at the two. She opened the door for the two and whispered as they walked out. "You two better not mess this up."
Risk simply glared at her before looking down at the paper. Eastman didn't change. He knew well enough who to look for. It was an 'easy' enough assignment for someone who'd been in the gang. It was yet another sign of how Eastman and his gang was going down the drain.
"Yeah, yeah," he muttered, rolling his eyes at her.

Beth took the paper from him and looked down at it with no expression. While her stomach clenched in horror.
No. 9 Duane Street. It was the lodging house. This Gypsy girl was staying in their own damn lodging house, where everyone knew them. Where Ershey lived. And somehow, they were going to have to walk in there and kidnap one of the lodgers without getting made by anyone in front of Sammie.
And then what? What the hell would Eastman do to this girl once he had her? How far were they expected to take this? She was going to kill Goblin if it was the last thing she did. "Well, let's go," she snapped, striding down the street.

Risk looked at Macbeth curiously. He'd only had enough time to read the name of the girl they were supposed to find. He'd never heard of a girl named Gypsy or Genevieve. Then again, he never really talked to anyone else except for Macbeth and his sister. Risk walked next to Macbeth, wanting nothing more than to figure out what was going on in her head. It was only when they reached the lodging house that he looked at her in surprise.
"You two know this place?" muttered Sammie, taking in Risk's face.

"We useta stay here," Macbeth admitted, thinking quickly. "Sold papes for a while, when we was between gangs. Trying to live on a dime a day, you can imagine why we'd look for something bigger," she said, rolling her eyes. "If we just walk in and pretend to be newsies, this'll be a bloody piece'a cake." If only Sammie weren't so damn observant, she would've been side-eyeing Risk like crazy, but she didn't dare.

Sammie looked at Macbeth and Risk curiously, having a feeling that there was more to her story. But she wasn't about to question her now, not when they were looking for someone.
"Right, well, you two go first... since you know the place and all," she muttered, hiding her blade and any conceivable weapons as they entered the front door.

Macbeth nodded and pulled Risk toward the stairs. "We'll check up here, you stay down here in case she comes in the door," she said briskly without looking at Sammie, hoping the girl would see that her plan made sense.
The moment she and Risk reached the top of the stairs, she shot him a What the hell are we gonna do? look.

Sammie nodded, eyeing the ledger as Risk and Macbeth disappeared upstairs.
"You know her?" whispered Risk once he was sure that they were far from Sammie.

"No," she snapped in a whisper, glancing at the bunkroom door, "but that means I don't hate her either, and we ain't got any idea what they're gonna do to her. Any idea where the hell Goblin is?"
((It just occurred to me--what on earth did they tell Ershey about why they're gone? ^_^))

"How would I know?" he retorted, turning the doorknob to the girls' bunkroom. "He only shows up when he needs something from me."
((LOL. Poor girl knows nothing!!))

Gypsy had been spending the weeks in Manhattan, and every weekend in the Lower East Side at Jimmy's. Because they were, like, official or whatever. She still hadn't gotten used to that. But, hey, at least she hadn't cheated on him again.
She was lounging in her bunk, filing her nails when the door open, and she only barely glanced up.
