Riddle blinked. This girl seemed to have noticed she wasn't playing with a full deck, and she'd just kind of accepted it. And offered to let her light a fire. And make evil schemes.
"You and me, we're gonna get along fine," she said with an actual, genuine grin, striking a match and starting a small blaze with her makeshift kindling. "Happens I got a bit of a flare for scheming...what've you got in mind?"

"Castration," Zippy responded immediately, only half-joking, her eyes on the fire. "No, but really, how are we going to get out of here?" And what about the torahs? That question, Zippy concluded, was one she would keep to herself.

"Oh, this is just to make me feel better," Riddle assured her with a smirk. "I won't let it get outta hand. We'll wait for your fucking janitor." She paused to seriously consider the proposed option. "Well, I have got two other brothers to carry on the family name..."

"Oh, Simon already has." Zippy pointed out, her eyes fascinated by the flames. "Mazel tov, you're an auntie."

Riddle's eyes widened, then softened. "Simon? Yeah? He must've married Becca, then." She turned to face Erin. "He did marry her, right? What'd they have, a boy or a girl? Did they..." She trailed off, dismayed by her own sudden burst of sentimentality. Burning your past, huh, Lena? Savagely, she threw another tattered skirt onto the fire.

Zippy coughed a bit from the smoke, but trusted the girl- yet she had no idea why- that she'd maintain the fire.
"Annie. They had a little girl named Annie."

She glanced at Erin, sighed, and found a bottle of water on one of the shelves, which she set about splashing on the flames. Wherever it fell, the fire went out with a hiss. This created even more smoke, of course, and she was coughing and sooty by the time the blaze was out. "Well, that was fun," she muttered, rubbing her eyes and sitting down amid the pile of charred rubble. "So...you've been getting awful cozy with my family. Where was yours all this time?"

Zippy winced, not looking at it that way. "Dead or long gone. I don't have anybody."

"Should've kept it that way," Riddle said grimly. "You're always better off on your own."

Zippy shrugged, only recently beginning to feel that way. Being alone meant freedom, but at the time... "Your mom makes a great brisket."

She snorted with laughter. "Yeah, it's a city-wide fucking legend." She played with the laces of a slightly burnt shoe. "You just took over my life, didn't you? The good and the bad. They lost their only daughter, so they went out and found a new one." She eyed Erin thoughtfully. "And now here we are, locked in a synagogue together. Life's a funny thing."

"It's a miserable thing," Zippy replied, grumbling. "What did you do anyway? You know, to get arrested?"

"Got jumped by some guys who called me a Christ-killer." Riddle smirked. "A girl fighting in the streets, disturbing the peace...can't have that. They gave me a month, but I was in for a year."
Too much, she'd told entirely too much already. This girl knew exactly who she was. Her crimes would be all over the papers tomorrow, and Erin was a fucking newsie. If Riddle still cared about survival, she'd have to do something about that. But not yet, right? The night was young.

Zippy frowned, and crossed her arms over her chest. "So are we gonna take care of Joseph or what?" The girl must have connections, especially since she had been in the refuge.
"We don't need to kill him, I'm- I'm not asking you to kill your brother. But....I need a new start." Another one. Anything to know she was safe again, although she was pretty sure she embarrassed Joseph enough that he wasn't coming after her- he needed to find a new wife.
