((...because starting an open thread with Goblin is the meanest thing I could possibly do to him right now.))
It was the morning after Goblin let Sammie go. He'd spent the night in the basement without really meaning to, and only emerged when his deeply worried sister found him and wanted an explanation for the bruise on his face. He'd given Wraith a vague outline of what happened, but not enough to really make her worry. And then, because he didn't know what else to do, he went out to sell papers.
The headlines, however, gave him pause today. Warden Seamus McArthur of the House of Refuge was found dead in his office, cause undetermined, and a guard was found stabbed on the basement stairs. Lena Eisenberg, the suspect in both murders, was at large. The cops were offering a reward. Goblin stared at the paper, had a million thoughts at once, and felt a powerful urge to get extremely drunk.

((Other people should totally still jump in on this!!))
Cav had spent the last week or so brooding over Footsteps. He was glad to have seen her, but he wondered if that didn't just make it harder not to have her.
As he went out to sell, he realized he hadn't seen Goblin in a few days, so he sought him out, finding him looking over the paper.
"Interestin' headlines, huh." He'd seen the article about the Warden and Riddle, too.

((Agreed, though I'm kind of glad Cav showed up before anyone else did. ^^))
He looked up for a second and nodded vaguely. He was glad to see one of the few people left in the lodging house who didn't want him dead, but he was still nostalgic for those weeks after he first moved to Duane Street when he didn't really talk to anyone. Why had he ever given that up, again?
Oh, right. Script.

Cav made a show of looking over a paper, quiet for a moment or two. Then, "Where ya been?"

He flipped through the pages of the paper without actually reading anything. "Basement, mostly. How 'bout you?"

"The bunkroom. Like normal people." He glanced at him. "Heard some rumors about Gypsy."

"Probably true," he said, finally looking up. "I talked to her afterward. Surprisingly, I don't think we really hate each other anymore." Though that was only one name to cross off a very long list.

"Do you know what happened to her? Haven't seen her around." He watched him. Goblin looked tired, pale. This whol plan needed to be over already.

"Living with her boyfriend, I think. Why would you be looking for Gypsy?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. Gone were the fondly remembered days when he always knew everything that was going on with everyone. He didn't even have time to keep up with his own damn plan anymore.

He shrugged. "Just wondering. Wanted to make sure you didn't kill her or something." He licked his lips, then sighed. "You don't look so good, kid."

He touched the bruise unconsciously and winced. "Yeah, well. Everything's almost over, right?" In fact, there were only two more major steps in his plan, and he wasn't about to tell Cav about the first one. He had a feeling Cav would do something stupidly nice, like try to stop him. Or worse, try to help him. "Guess we should actually sell these," he commented, scooping up his papers.

Cav nodded, and they hawked for a while before he really spoke again. "So, what now? What's the next step in this damn scheme of yours?"

Goblin glanced at him, hawked a few headlines, and refrained from mentioning Eastman and the suicidal decision he'd already made. Even though that meant skipping to a step that he'd been dreading in a completely different way.
"The Eastman Gang's down for the count, which means the cops and judges aren't on their payroll anymore. So now we finally take this thing to court." He sighed. "And I have to talk to Script. Ask her to testify."
Besides the inherent painfulness of talking to Maggie under any circumstances, he'd have to put Skittery back on the list of people to avoid. I should really just move, he thought idly, though he had no idea where, or if he even cared enough about his fate to bother.

Cav raised a brow. "You're gonna talk to Script? Have you even talked to her at since..." Since you came home crying after leaving her in the arms of another man?

"...Nope." He concentrated very hard on selling papers. The bruise helped. Thanks, Risk, he thought wryly.
