Jimmy sighed heavily and rolled over, he sat up on the edge of the bed. "What did I do to you?" He turned to look over his shoulder and ask her. "Have I hurt you or treated you badly? Your dislike of me is quite apparent and I know not what I did to receive such treatment." He grabbed his shirt and pulled it on over his head, standing as he did so.

If he didn't know, then she surely wasn't going to tell him. He hadn't done anything to win her trust or her confidence. "Good night...my lord," she said finally, no emotion in her voice whatsoever.

"Good night," He replied coldly, he tugged on his trousers and left the room, slamming the door behind him.

She winced as the door slammed, but that was all she allowed herself to do. She lay awake for another hour or so, despairing that she wouldn't be able to sleep at all. But she finally drifted off, just as the last embers of the fire died away.
The next morning, she arose early and called her maid to help her get dressed. Once she was presentable, she headed down to the breakfast room, hoping her husband would be down there. She wanted to visit her father, but she knew she couldn't go without his permission.

Jimmy was enjoying a hearty breakfast, bacon, eggs, sausage, the works. He laughed as one of his men said something rather amusing. He took a sip of beer. Jimmy pointedly ignored his brother, who was made to sit at the far end of the table.

She entered the breakfast room, hands clasped and eyes cold. But the moment she saw the Duke, thoughts of the previous night filled her head. And she was almost certain she was now blushing. Damn him.

A silence filled the room and Jimmy looked up at his wife entering the room. He stood up from the table and the rest of the men followed.

She inclined her head to the other men, then set her eyes upon the Duke. "Good morning, my lord," she said as she walked over to the vacant chair next to him.

"Good Morning," He nodded his head to her, once she was seated the rest of the men sat down as well. The breakfast now seemed to take on a calmer tone.

Rose ate in silence, though it was obvious her request was simmering below the surface. Once the other men were involved in their own conversation, she turned her head a fraction toward the Duke.
"I would like to visit my father today," she stated, glancing at him only briefly.

Jimmy turned his head to look at her and then bit into a piece of bread. He nodded, then swallowed his food. "Give him my love," he responded. He paused for a moment to take a sip of his drink. "You do not have to ask my permission for things like that. Visit him as often as you like. As I said yesterday, we will not be leaving until his health improves or he leaves this world." He said matter of factly, "Try to enjoy the time you have left here, soon you will be moving your life somewhere new." Jimmy said. He was nothing if not honest with her and he truly didn't want her to be miserable in his home.

She paused, his words taking a moment to settle in her brain. Then she nodded. "Thank you, my lord," she replied with a stiff nod. Then she rose from the table and made her way to her father's chamber.

Jimmy sighed and rubbed his temples. His friend turned to him and shook his head, "No picnic being married my lord?" He grinned, "Tis why I choose to remain single,"
Jimmy rolled his eyes, "Oh really? Not because Rae keeps telling you no and threatening to slit your throat?" The rest of the men burst out laughing.

When Rose quietly entered her father's chamber, her hand immediately lifted to her mouth. He looked far worse than he had yesterday. She went to him, sitting by his bed and holding his hand. "Oh, father..." she whispered, swallowing down the lump in her throat. "I wish I could help you."
Her father opened his eyes the slightest bit, turning his head in her direction. "You have helped me, my darling. I can go peacefully now that I know you're settled. You may not thank me now, pumpkin, but you will later. And so will he. Why shouldn't he? I've given him my greatest treasure. You." And he'd said the same thing to The Duke not a few weeks ago.

((awww sadness *pout*))
His friend narrowed his eyes and pouted. "That woman needs a whipping,"
Jimmy smirked, "I'd like to see you try it. She's got far more money than you do and has no problem with inflicting violence upon your person to keep her freedom."
"Can can order her to marry me."
"I'd rather not." Jimmy said with a smirk. The boys were all laughing. They couldn't help it.
Jimmy stood and excused himself before leaving the room. He headed down the hall to Rose's father's chamber door. He knew the man wouldn't last much longer, he could at least try to comfort her if he had taken a drastic turn.
