Moonshine waited in the lobby for Rose to come downstairs.
They'd been dating for months, but had never actually gone out anywhere, besides drinks at Irving Hall, so he'd told her to get gussied up and meet him. He was taking her out to dinner.

Rose let out a sigh as she took one last look at herself in the mirror. What did 'gussied up' even mean? She had done her hair in one, long braid, hanging over her shoulder. And she'd put on a very simple pink dress she hadn't worn in ages. Hopefully that counted.
As much as she loved Whiskey, she kind of wasn't looking forward to this date thing. She'd rather just hang out with him or go get tipsy at Irving Hall. But apparently he was itching to take her out. So she would humor him as best she could. She descended the staircase slowly, so she wouldn't trip; she wished she was wearing pants right now.

Moonshine saw her and sent her a wide grin. He took her hand as she reached the bottom, leaning in and kissing her. "Hey, Sugar. Ya look real pretty."

She blushed, a half-smile half-smirk forming on her lips. "Well, you told me to look pretty, so here I am," she replied, gesturing to her prettified self. "Now, can we go?"

He laughed. "In a hurry to get it over with, baby?" He squeezed her hand, then pulled on his coat.

"Yes, because I absolutely hate spending time with you," she retorted, narrowing her eyes playfully as she slipped into her own coat. The coat had been a birthday present from her grandmother last year, she remembered. Speaking of, she was officially eighteen years old. Would Whiskey be mad if he found out it was her birthday, and she hadn't told him?

Moonshine snorted, then kissed her forehead. "Come on, Sugar. I'm feedin' ya tonight." He led her out, keeping her close to guard her from the cold.

Rose hugged her coat around her tightly, leaning heavily into his side as the bitterly cold wind blew through the darkening sky. She wanted to ask where they were going, how his day had been, why he felt like taking her out, etc etc, but it was just too damn cold to do anything.

He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, kissing her hair as they walked. He hurried them to Mama's opening the door, and letting her in. "Brr, it's damn cold."

"At least when it's this cold in Atlanta, you know winter is almost over," she muttered, trying to wipe the snowflakes out of her hair.

He chuckled. "Well, seems winter in New York's just gettin' started, Sugar." He led her to a booth in the back, draping his coat over the seat.

She was about to frown and make some negative remark, but she didn't want to put a damper on the evening. She already felt awkward; at least most of the people in Irving Hall were drunk or on their way to it. She didn't mind it when people there stared at her. So, she just sat up straight, opened her menu, and searched through the choices.

He glanced at her as he looked over his own menu. "You okay, baby? Ya seem kind of...annoyed."

She looked at him from over the top of her menu, a small smile pulling at the corner of her mouth. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just hungry, I guess."

He nodded. "Well, get whatever ya want. Ya want some wine, too? To be fancy?" He grinned at her.
