((they have such an interesting clash of cultures haha))
Leo frowned. "What happened?" He instinctively held her closer.

((haha, I know! I'm loving it! Pasha will be furious, of course, but she doesn't care.))
"They... they got ill," Sveta answered softly. She let out a quiet sigh and let her head lightly come to rest on his shoulder. "Mameh and Tateh, they did not make it past Ireland." She closed her eyes tightly and swallowed hard. This was the most she had talked about her parents' death with anyone, even her brother. "I only have my brother."

"That is horrific. I am sorry you had to experience that," Leo told her gently, rubbing her back. "Would your- Mameh- be happy for you to have a sewing job?"

"I think she would, yes," Svetlana answered with a nod. "She taught me how and she was very good at it. I think she would be proud." Her brother, on the other hand, would definitely not be happy about this situation.

Leo grinned. "well that is wonderful then. Are you going to tell your brother?"

"Nyet," she answered with a laugh and a shake of her head. "If I tell him, Leo, if I tell him, he will never let me out of the house!" She saw the lodging house come into view and she quickly felt her heart start to sink. "He will not be happy." She almost dreaded walking back into the lodging house. Even though she was almost completely sure that Pasha wasn't home, there was still the slight fear that he was. If he was home before her, there was no telling how angry he would be!

"will he...um, does he, hurt you when he's displeased?" Leo asked awkwardly, but with high concern.

"Hurt me?"Svetlana asked, her eyebrows arching. "No, no! He just yells. A lot. Tells me to not leave the house unless he is with me." She paused and let out a frustrated groan. "He is all talk, but sometimes, I don't think he even knows what he is saying."

Leo cleared his throat, a little worried about getting sort of caught up in this. "He is right that this city is dangerous. It's important to be alert, and to not walk around alone."

"I can understand this, yes," Svetlana finally agreed. They reached the front steps of the lodging house and she carefully took a hold of the railing before climbing up the first step. She stopped haflway up the steps and leaned back against the railing. "It just... it gets lonely, inside all of the time. I don't think he sees this."

"Well you got a job now," Leo pointed out with a smile. "Maybe something interesting will happen to you now."

"Something has already happened," she remarked happily. "I have made a new friend, have I not?"

"Yes you have," Leo smiled at her, following her inside the lodging house.

"I do not think I can ever thank you enough," Svetlana said sweetly once they stepped inside the lodging house. She could feel herself start to blush and quickly looked away, not wanting Leo to notice. "You, Leo, you are a good person."

"I want to be," Leo replied, with a shrug. "too more horror in the world not to be. It's why I prefer animals. They are more humane than humans are."
