"I never thought of it that way... but I guess you are right," Svetlana said thoughtfully. From what she could see, Leo had a vastly different view of the world than her brother did. Her brother's was worn and tired, but Leo's, oh, Leo's was much more refreshing and comforting to her.
"Do... do you always prefer animals to people?"

Leo looked into her eyes. "Not always, no."

Svetlana smiled, pleased with his answer, "Good." She locked eyes with him and bit down lightly on her lower lip. "I... I think I would be sad if you did," she confessed, her voice soft.

"Animals are fantastic creatures. But humans can be too," Leo continued, then cleared his throat. "What do you like to go by? Svetlana? Or can I just call you Lana?"

"No one has ever called me Lana before... I think I like it," She answered bashfully. She looked up at him with wide eyes and a bright smile; she could get used to having him around. "I think, Leo, that you are fantastic... if I may say so."

Leo blushed, looking down shyly. "Thank you." He shoved his hands into his coat pockets awkwardly. "Well, I shall see you around Lana." He nodded to her and headed towards the stairs. ((we can zoom if you want! ))

"Goodnight, Leo," She called after him, watching him for a moment before disappearing into the kitchen. ((Ohh, we could! ))

((I got it )) Leo had found himself the next day thinking about Svetlana...Lana. It had been so long since he met such a sweet girl like her. While he was at the doctor's, someone brought in a stray cat that had a broken paw. After Dr. Levin fixed her up, it was always Leo's job to take care of the cats, either take them to the animal shelter or if they were very old, make them comfortable until they passed. This cat in particular was very dirty, but young. And sweet. She reminded Leo an awful lot like Lana, with its dark brown fur and constant purring. Leo just couldn't do it. He didn't wanna take her to the shelter. Instead, after he left the office, he carried the kitty to Irving Hall, hoping that Lana was still there working, and was liking her job.

Lana sat in the middle of the costuming room at Irving Hall, watching attentively as one of the more seasoned costumers showed her the proper way to fit and sew a costume for one of the dancers.
Despite her hardest attempts to keep herself focused, her mind kept drifting back her conversations with Leo the night before. He had been so very kind to her without seeming to want anything in return. She soon found herself wishing that she could be at the vet's office with him like they had originally planned, but she still held out hope that she would run into him at Irving Hall sometime before she had to head home.
Thoughts of her brother soon followed her thoughts about Leo. She knew he would be furious when he finally found out she had gotten a job -- but not nearly as furious as he world be if he found out she got it from talking to a man who was a relative strange to her. Worse yet, she knew immediately that he would disapprove because he was not Russian. Her forehead wrinkled at this; why did her brother have to be so close-minded about everything?
Her thoughts were soon interrupted when she heard the costumer tell her that it was time for a break.

Leo nodded to Charlie the bartender as he entered the hall, the kitten snuggled in his arms. Charlie gave him a look but didn't say anything because it wasn't even Leo's shift, no one was around, and Leo was such a good worker.
Leo entered backstage, finding Lana leaving the dressing room area. "Good afternoon!" He greeted her, smiling more widely than he had intended to.

"Leo!!" Lana said excitedly, her face lighting up when she saw him. She walked over to him quickly before pushing the hair from her eyes. "What are you doing here? I thought you had to work with the animals today." She paused and pretended to look around the empty backstage area. "I see no animals here, Leo!"

"Dr. Levin is not open all day, only until 5," Leo explained. "And I cannot afford to spend too many hours with him, since he does not pay me. Usually I sell newspapers now." He smiled at her.
"There is an animal though." He glanced down in his arms to the small cat, who was just blinking awake, looking around.

Her eyes followed his down to his arms. She gasped when she saw the small cat nestled in his arms. "Look at her!" She gushed. "Where did you find her, Leo? Does she have a home? Oh, please do not put her back on the street!"

Leo smiled and handed Lana the cat. "Be careful, her paw is broken. Of course I am not putting her on the street. I brought her for you. Dr. Levin fixed her paw a few hours ago."

Lana carefully took the cat into her arms, cradling her gently. "For me?" she asked, a hint of surprise in her voice. "Wow, Leo! This, this is so very sweet of you! I don't know what to say...."
