He almost rolled his eyes at that. Tara was right--rich people might not understand the plights of the poor, but poor people had no idea what kinds of things went on sometimes in wealthy households...because everyone pretended it wasn't happening. "Not exactly," he said, and discreetly pointed at a group of boys holding a muttered conference on a nearby dock. "You think they're planning something shady? I do."

Which he immediately regretted, because no, of course she didn't. He and Riddle were probably the only people in the world who could be endlessly entertained by such a bizarre hobby.

"You wouldn't make a very good chess player," Goblin said with a smirk. "You've gotta plan ahead." And then he remembered that he wasn't supposed to be planning anything. Ever again. "Or we could just watch the boats," he added, turning around to look squarely at the boats on the river instead of the fascinating horde of people on the docks.

"The cat likes you," said Sammie in surprise. "Never thought you would be a cat person." Her face softened, feeling herself relax as she slowly found out more things about him. She just wondered if she had something worth sharing.

He turned to Sammie as the cat made itself at home in his lap. "So...your turn. Tell me things."

He raised an eyebrow. "You'll just answer anything I ask?" He wasn't exactly prone to asking easy, harmless questions. The answers to the hard ones were much more interesting.
