"Oh really? Listen my boy can stand up for himself, he is mine after all." Tristan waved it off. "I ain't here about that and you know it." he refused to step further into her home. He felt uncomfortable here, and he crossed his arms to hide it and also the fact that his right hand looked like a mottled claw with oversized swollen knuckles and bent fingers.

"then say what you came to say before my husband gets home!" Erin snapped, trying not to look at him but doing an awful job at it. He looked the same, except more tired.

"What's your problem with my son? He ain't even close to what I was like at his age. He's a good kid and loves your daughter." he said. "yeah it's uncomfortable but I'd rather be uncomfortable than have my kid be miserable."

"it's young love. They'll get over it." Erin replied coldly. "I was in love with you and I found someone else. They are no good for each other."

"Really?" Tristan said with a slight edge to his voice. "my son is a man, he's 25 years old. he loves your daughter and I don't think it's some young love." he contemplated the next part of her statement. "why ain't they good for each other? Cause he's gotta work hard for everything cause he can't buy her a fancy house like this and silk gowns? You never seemed to need any of this shit till you married David."

"you are right, I don't need it," Erin replied, glaring at him. "but Dave worked hard so we can have it. So we can give our children a life away from...all of it." but the more she talked, the less sure she was.
"besides...I can barely look at him without seeing you," she admitted, looking away. "it's too miserable. Melody can find someone else."

"And you think I don't see you in Melody. That girl is exactly like you," he said. "but we are the past, we've done too much to each other and have grown up, moved on. Just let them love each other. Everything will happen with time." Tristan said with a shrug.

Erin crossed her arms over her chest, uncomfortable yet convinced. She knew he was right. "What about David? And Nevada? She can't be too happy about this either. Has she met Melody?"

"Tell David to get the fuck over it and I'll talk to my wife." Tristan said it in such a way that there was really no room for argument. "Just to put your mind at ease, Mikey ain't involved in none of my shit. He's works completely legit."

"so now what?" Erin opened up the door for him to leave. "See you at at Christmas? My family will host it this year, yours the next?" she shook her head, the thought of it completely unnerving.
"I'll talk to David. But it probably won't help."

"You sure you want my tribe in this house for Christmas?" Tristan asked her with a smirk. "you know this is the right choice." he said with a smile. He turned to leave.

"Tristan," Erin began, about to close the door. "It's nice to know you are such...a believer in love."

Tristan smiled at her. "Well I've learned a lot over the years. Trying to be some big guy and denying how much you love somebody ain't worth it." he shrugged, "I wish I'd learned that earlier in life."

Erin tilted her head at him. "I really wish it wasn't Mikey."
