"Don't worry, this guy isn't a creep," Rose assured Maggie as they walked out of the brick building in which they spent forty hours a week. They were both journalists for the city's biggest newspaper; Maggie was the advice columnist while Rose worked in style, the next department over. They'd become fast friends during orientation, and had remained close after a few years of working. One day last week, a light bulb went off above Rose's head. She didn't know why she hadn't thought of it before. Her old friend from college, Michael, and Maggie would seriously hit it off. She just knew it. So she'd set them up on a blind date. "He was the guy who got drunk in college but wouldn't dream of taking advantage of anyone. He's a really good guy, I swear."
Michael sighed as he opened the door to his apartment. His roommate, Tyler, was already home, presumably watching ESPN on their flat screen TV. He'd just come home from a grueling day at the advertising agency for whom he worked. He was the main artist, and they'd just picked up a really huge client. Which called for a really huge presentation. Which was his job. And, to top it all off, he had a blind date in a couple hours. Like he felt like going out after nine hours of intense Hell.

Maggie sighed, exasperated. "That's what you said about the last guy you tried to set me up with. And the one before that, and the one before that..." Rose tried to set Maggie up a lot. It wasn't that Maggie couldn't get her own dates, far from it. She just chose not to. Her last serious relationship with her ex-fiance Sebastian completely imploded, and Maggie was still awfully gun shy. "Where am I meeting him again?"
Tyler was in fact on the couch, feet propped up on the coffee table, eating a giant bowl of Rice Krispies with a ton of added sugar. "'Bout time you got home. Friday night, wanna order a pizza? Game's on tonight." Tyler had gone to college with Michael and Rose, and had had an open crush on her for years. Micheal teased him about it and Rose basically ignored him. It wasn't pretty.

"The Bistro On Ninth. Y'know, that little bistro on Ninth Avenue," Rose said, a smirk pulling at her lips. "And I promise, this guy is different. He doesn't live with his mom, he has no cats, and there are no crazy ex-girlfriends stalking him... None that I know of, at least. Look, just go and try to have a good time. And if it doesn't work out, I won't set you up with anymore guys. Pinky promise."
Michael let out another sigh. "I have a blind date," he informed him, throwing his jacket on the counter and shuffling over to the couch. He plopped down, rubbing the bridge of his nose with two fingers.

Maggie sighed again. "I'm holding you to that." She hugged Rose goodbye. "I'll call you later and tell you what a disaster it was." She smirked, then headed to her car, driving home to get ready.
Tyler snorted. "Oh, yeah? Which one of your Mad Men reject buddies set you up this time?"

Rose drove home with a very satisfied smirk on her face. She had a feeling, and it wasn't like the feelings she'd had about the other blind dates she'd set up with Maggie. She couldn't wait to go to their wedding one day!
"None of them," he replied, leaning forward to place his elbows on his knees. "Rose did. With one of her co-workers."

Maggie went home and took a shower, doing her hair and makeup. She pinned her curls back so it fell prettily down her back, and put on her favorite soft pink dress and ballet flats. If she was going out, she might as look feel pretty.
Tyler sat up. "Rose? It's ain't...a double date or nothin'? Is it?" Because he wanted to go and punch Rose's potential date in the nose.

Michael couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head. Oh, Tyler and his everlasting crush on Rose. "No, not that I know of. You should go over to her place and throw rocks at her window, Tyler. She would love that." Then he got up, groaning and heading to his room. "I gotta get ready."

Maggie arrived at the restaurant right on time, holding her shawl around her elbows, clutching her purse like it was a lifeline.
Well, he wouldn't go that far. But maybe he'd call her. Yeah, call her. He waited until Michael left before getting out his cell and calling Rose.

Michael didn't look half bad; he didn't think so, and Tyler made fun of his outfit, so he knew it was date-appropriate. He walked up to the restaurant, spotting a curly-haired brunette immediately. He stepped up to her awkwardly. "Maggie...?"
Rose was in the bathtub, but she always kept her phone on her. She was a journalist; one never knew when a fashion emergency would occur. She rolled her eyes when she saw the caller ID, though. But something made her pick up. "What do you want?"

Maggie turned when she heard her name, then blinked when she got a look at Michael. Well, he wasn't definitely cuter than the others, that was for sure. "Michael? Hi..."
Tyler smirked, "Now, Sugar, is that any way to greet yer favorite person in the whole wide world? Whatcha' up to, Princess?"

Michael smiled, nodding and making a quick sweep of Maggie with his eyes. She was pretty. Really pretty. "Hey, nice to meet you. You ready to go in?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?" she replied, sounding bored. Yes, she was 100% he would like to know exactly what she was doing. "Seriously, what do you want?"

Maggie smiled and nodded, blushing just a little. "Yeah. Yeah, okay." She let him open the door for her, walking in. The hostess showed them to a table in the corner. "This place is nice. I've never been here before."
Tyler grinned. "Come over. Mike's out on that date ya set 'im up on, and I figured we could order a pizza and watch a movie or somethin'."

"Me neither," Michael replied, looking around, admiring the place before admiring the woman sitting across from him. "So, you're the advice columnist for the paper? That's impressive," he said, opening his menu and glancing down at the choices.
"Just the two of us? Tyler, why would I want to do that?" she asked, picking up a razor and starting to shave her legs. "And don't say because you're hot. That's what you always say. I already know that."

She nodded, spreading her cloth napkin onto her lap. "Well, it's not really what I want. I want to write features. National news, that kind of thing. I have to work my way up, though."
Tyler smirked. "Then because I asked real nice, and we haven't hung out in ages."

"Even more impressive," he replied, a half-smiling gracing his lips. "Where did you go to school?"
Rose was quiet for a bit, then finally she sighed. "Okay, fine," she said, sounding defeated. "Lemme just finish my bath, and I'll be over." Before he could respond, she hung up.
