"Oh..." Pasha nodded, eyeing the other boy suspiciously. "Well, that makes sense." After all, his sister DID spend lots of time in the kitchen.... He grinned and reached into his pocket, pulling out a key. "I should go. Someone is expecting me."

Leo nodded, waving goodbye. Thank goodness. Leo rushed back to his bunk to collect his wallet, and went downstairs to find Lana.

Lana left Starfish on her bunk, lightly kissing the top of the cat's head before making her way downstairs to the lobby. Once in the lobby, she made herself comfortable in an armchair, her arms crossed as she thought about the altercation with her brother. How could someone be so heartless?? She wasn't sure where Leo was, but she hoped he had not heard the argument with her brother -- that was the last thing she needed!

"Is your brother gone?" He asked her, remaining a safe distance away and sticking his hands in his pockets.

Lana looked up and Leo and nodded slowly. "Da," she answered casually. "He left a few minutes ago." She sighed and glanced back at the doorway. "He said he may not be back tonight."

Leo let out a sigh of relief he didn't realize he was holding. "I talked to him about you. In the bathroom," Leo told her, a hint of distance in his voice. He didn't go over to embrace her, like he normally would.

"You did?" Lana asked, a concerned look in her eyes. She sat up straight as she spoke to him her back rigid. She knew it was only a matter of time before her brother found Leo. She was just hoping that it would be later rather than sooner.
"I am sorry," she apologized. "If you do not wish to go out tonight, I will understand."

"No, I want to take you out. I have been looking forward to this." Leo approached her, and took her hand. "He is very harsh. I do not think he would approve of this."

"I know he will not," Lana answered sadly. She swallowed hard and looked up at him, a hopeful look in her eyes. "But I do not care, Leo. I do not care what he says is right and wrong, because it is not how I feel. How can I listen to somebody who is never here for me?"

Leo nodded, trying to understand. "Let's go, then." He led the way outside, the fresh air a relief for him. "Has he always been so controlling of you?"

Lana nodded her head slowly as she followed him outside. The cold air made her shiver, but she resisted the urge to pull herself close to him. "He has," she answered quietly. "It was not so bad when my parents were alive, but now it is like this."

"This is America. Women are not treated like that here. Some, but not all," Leo replied, with a sigh.

"Tell him that," Lana sighed. She looked up at him, a worried look on her face. "You will not stop being my friend because of him, will you?" She had hoped that he would say no, but she had no idea exactly how much her brother had scared him.

Honestly, Leo wasn't so sure. He did not know what her brother was capable of. If he felt threatened by him, Leo didn't know.
"no Lana. If you still want to see me I still want to see you."

Leo's answer didn't seem quite so convincing to Lana. She thought about lying to him, saying that she didn't want to see him anymore -- just so she wouldn't have to deal with the pain that would surely come with him saying it to her. She opened her mouth to speak, to say that she would leave, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. "I still want to see you, Leo..."
