Rose was sitting at her place at the table, frowning. But she, too, could understand what her grandma was saying.
"Listen, dears. I love both of you. I...may not have been the best about showing that in the past, but I truly love you, Rosie. And Tyler, you're already like a grandson to me. I know you don't like hearing what I'm saying, but please trust me. Just be young while you still can. Wait a few years."

Rose almost laughed, but she knew Tyler would never speak to her again if she did. So she stuffed her face with bacon instead.

He nearly growled, then got up and headed towards the front door.

Rose hurried after him, stopping him before he could leave. "I'll talk to her, okay?" she said, forcing him to face her. "Come to Irving Hall tonight, during my shift."

He glowered. "You agree with her. I can tell."

"Well, you have to admit, she has a point," Rose said, lowering her voice.

She furrowed her brow at him. "Look, Tyler, just come to Irving Hall tonight. I'll buy you a drink. We'll talk about this when you walk me home."

He grunted. "Fine. Maybe."

"Now kiss me before you storm off," she ordered, tilting her head up a little.

He sighed. She broke him. He leaned down and kissed her. "I love you."

"I love you, too." She kissed him again, standing on her toes. "Always." Another kiss. "More than anything."

He sighed. "I'll see you tonight. And tell Vera, I'm marryin' you, regardless a' what she says."
