Rose just let out a very long, heavy sigh. Then she got an idea.
"I'm going to go home and talk to grandma. Can you come over later? Maybe in an hour or so?"

Rose cuffed him a bit on the chin, smirking. "Cheer up, kid. A handsome face like that has no need for frowning." Then she scampered off to her grandma's house.

He smirked, went back inside for a couple more drinks of liquid courage, then headed to Vera's house.

When she heard the knock on the door, Rose rushed to it, flinging it open with a wide smile. She grabbed Tyler's hand, and led him into the kitchen.

"You will be, too," she said with a smile. Vera was sitting at the table, looking just a tiny bit defeated.
"Okay," Rose began, letting out a breath. "You said earlier that you wanna go home, and I know this isn't really the same or maybe even what you had in mind, but Grandma said we could go down there for a month."

"You and I are going down to Kentucky for a month!" she exclaimed, trying to keep herself from jumping up and down. She knew this would make him really, really happy.

He moved to sit down. "To Kentucky. You and me. To...visit." He let out a breath. He wanted to go home. But once he did...he was afraid he wouldn't want to come back.
