"Well, I did when my parents were alive," she told him, grinning. "I had a very close friend who went to school with me, before I had to leave." Birdie sighed. "I miss her."

She paused at that and furrowed her brow. "Oh," she said slowly. "I hadn't really thought about that... I guess I can practice out here, when it's not too cold."

Birdie rubbed at her arms as a wind started to blow down the street. "Guess I'll go in, it's getting cold out here." She got to her feet, having to balance with one arm thrown out so she wouldn't topple over.
