Nick frowned deeper and unfolded his napkin with a bit more force than was necessary. "I should think it matters a great deal if someone is a moron or not."
Bea laughed and gave Michael a smile as she stirred her tea. "Still, I am sorry I wasn't able to go. I do like dancing, very much." She looked over at Nick, who was pursing his lips. "Don't mind Nicholas, Lillie, he's only grumpy because Aunt Maria keeps pushing poor Eugenia Henries at him."

Lillian stifled a giggle. "Oh, but Eugenia is such a darling! The way she spits at you when she talks is so endearing," she retorted, her eyes twinkling as she glanced at Nick.
"Well, there is the Bridgerton ball tomorrow night..." Michael mused. "Surely you can go and dance all you want."

"I can't even manage that, Lillian," Nick said with a grimace. "Every time I've tried to speak to her, she's looked at me like a frightened animal and scurried off."
Bea laughed. "Well, Nick, perhaps if we can go to the Bridgerton ball, we'll all help corral Miss Eugenia so she cannot escape you."

"Capitol idea, Bea," Michael said, smirking.
"Oh, yes, let's do!" Lillian chimed in, trying her hardest not to laugh. Poor Nick!

"Wonderful," Nick grumbled. "I do enjoy being spit on when I talk to ladies."
Laughing, Bea sipped her tea and gave Nick her most innocent smile.

"Well, if you had told me, I would have obliged," Lillian teased, hiding her smirk behind a fresh cup of tea.
"Yeah!" Michael added. "You spit on me all the time when you talk to me," he said to Lillian. Which caused her to choke a little on her tea.

Bea burst into giggles loud enough to cause several of the other patrons at Greenwood's to turn and look toward their table in disapproval.
"Bea, hush, you'll get us thrown out," Nick scolded, but he was laughing too. "I'm not sure we'd live down the shame of being too rowdy for Greenwood's."

"Oh, yes, that would be so horrible," Michael said sarcastically. He rolled his eyes, taking a bite of a scone.
Lillian, on the other hand, was still scowling and drinking her tea.

Bea looked up as the clock by the door chimed the hour, and she widened her eyes and swallowed the last bit in her cup. "I didn't realize the time, Mama will be needing me. You'll all be at the Bridgetons' tomorrow?"
"I suppose I must," Nick said with a long-suffering sigh. He glanced at Lillian and Michael curiously. "Will you two be attending? I'm sure there will be at least one Duke there to tempt you, Lillian."

"Yeah, we'll be there," Michael replied, standing up and pulling Bea's chair out for her.
Lillian couldn't help but blush. "Well, I want to read, I'll have to dance with someone tiltled!"

"Then I'll be certain not to seek you out for a dance, then, Lillian," Nick told her blandly. "Come on, Bea, I'll walk you back."
Bea gave Michael a smile of thanks and stuffed her hat back on her head. "We'll see you all tomorrow, then! Thanks for the tea!"

Michael nodded his good-bye, but Lillian stopped him from leaving just yet. "Do you think Nicholas will really not dance with me tomorrow?"
"I don't know, Lillian," he replied, annoyed. "Why don't you just ask him? Besides why do you care?"

As they exited the tea room and headed back toward home, Bea noticed that Nick still looked rather peeved. Though she knew he wouldn't ever tell her why, she guessed it had more than a little to do with Lillian and her Duke of Sheridan. With an impish smile, she looped her arm through her cousin's and proceeded home.
The next evening, Nick was still in a short temper. He arrived at the Bridgertons' well ahead of everyone else and had taken residence by the door to the kitchens so he could catch the waiters as they came out with their champagne trays.
Bea had opted to remain as far away from her grumpy cousin as possible, in spite of being forced to share the carriage with him and his sister Anna.

Michael escorted Lillian into the ballroom, but once they found their respective best friends, they went their separate ways. Michael sidles up to Nick, hands in his pockets. "Why do you look so grumpy?"
Lillian fluttered her fan in front of her face when she arrived at Bea's side. "Anything exciting happen yet?"

Nick scowled over his champagne, taking a less-than-dainty gulp from it. "Another of Mother's lectures before we left. And Bea is being particularly obnoxious tonight." He caught another waiter and snatched up two more glasses, passing one over to Michael. "Therefore, I plan to get pissed and forget this whole evening. What do you say?"
Bea smiled brightly at Lillian and caught her arm up, looping it through hers. "Nothing exciting yet, though I heard mention that the Earl of Winchester is supposed to be here." She flicked a glance across the room toward Michael and Nick. "And my cousin is being a horrid beast tonight, so if I were you, I'd stay far away from him."
