"No, I'm not, shut up," she replied, all in one breath. "Listen, I know you really want to get married. Like, now. And you know I want to marry you, too, just not right now, and I know you don't understand, and I didn't really either until just recently. See...I was forced to grow up really quickly when...well, you know. And now that I don't really have to worry about that anymore because of you and the trial...I sort of feel like I want to be young again. I mean, we're not technically adults for another 3 years, so...why rush growing up?"

He blinked down at her, caught off guard. He rolled off of her, sitting up, back to her. "Mama talked to you."

"Well, yeah, but she didn't put words in my mouth," she told him, slowly sitting up.

"So, you wanna be young. What does that even mean? You wanna go and be with other people or somethin'? Until you're ready?" He frowned, not liking that idea at all.

"What?! No! I don't want to be with other people! I just want to be with you," she cried, her brows furrowing deeply. "I just don't want to be married right now, that's all."

He shook his head. "I just don't understand what would change. What would be different, if we got married?"

"My name," she began, though she really didn't care about that. But still. "Everything. I wouldn't just be me anymore. I would be a wife."

He frowned. "Would that be so bad? Bein' my wife."

Rose sighed, swinging her legs over the side of the bed. "No. Never mind. Just forget I said anything," she mumbled, standing up and heading toward the door.

"Dammit, Rose," he snapped. "Don't you dare leave this room."

She froze, hand on the doorknob. She didn't say a word.

He frowned at her back, watching her. "We ain't always gonna agree. And ya can't just keep tryin' to walk out on me."

"Well, I'm tired of telling you how I feel and you arguing with me if you don't like what I have to say," she told him, her voice matter of fact.

He looked at her, eyes showing his hurt. "You're afraid a' me? Because I don't just agree with everythin' you say, you're afraid a' me?"

"I'm not afraid of you," she said, turning around to look at him. But she immediately regretted it. She hung her head, feeling awful. "Tyler, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything. You were so happy, and now I've ruined it." As usual.
