Racetrack was right, Raven was completely focused on getting her baby out of her. She was sweating and completely overcome with pain, she was lucky she could even focus on what the midwife was telling her.
Then she saw Race and Spot sitting out there on the fire escape and she couldn't help but let a small smile creep onto her lips just before a contraction hit and she screamed.

"Rae won't," he insisted, and repeated what he'd told her. "With everything she's lived through already, she ain't gonna let a baby kill her. You know how tough she is. She'll make it through this." The more he said it, the more he believed it. Though it didn't help that he'd known Spot for ten years and never seen him this strung out. At the sound of Rae screaming, he flinched and took a long drag on a cigar he didn't even remember lighting.
((I'm thinking of just bringing Macbeth in and saying she left Risk out in the hall, haha.))

(( haha do whatever you like!))
Smoke. Spot looked towards Race and, having had the reminder of smoke from Races cigar he reached for a cigarette in his pocket and lit it. At least that relaxed him. A little.
'you're probably right I just hate feeling....' helpless, he almost said, 'hate not being in control. She's strong thats for damn sure but our bodies can be weak,' he said, shrugging, looking back into the bedroom.

((Awww...sorry I can't help it, Spot's so worried it's adorable LOL))
The midwife was instructing Rae to push on the next contraction. Raven sat up on her elbows and took a deep breath.
"I don't think I'm ready yet," She said...but the midwife was insisting. Where the hell was Macbeth?

Macbeth had stopped by Raven's apartment intending to do some serious begging. If she could convince Spot and Raven to keep their mouths shut about Jo, there was a good chance Tristan would never learn that his daughter was alive.
When she reached the door and heard screaming inside, however, her priorities changed in a hurry. "Stay here," she told Risk, abandoning him in the hall, and she pushed her way through the door and ran in. "Please tell me you washed your hands," she snapped at the midwife, already grabbing a pot from the kitchen and pumping it full of water.

"Of course I washed my hands and who the hell are you?" The midwife asked her angrily, putting her hands on her hips.
That is also when she noticed the boys at the window, watching the entire thing. She stormed over and pulled the shade down.
"Persistant aren't they?"
"Oh yeah," Raven said as she panted on the bed, she was starting to get very tired.

Race was casting about for some way to distract Spot from his morbid thoughts when he saw a wild-eyed demon of a girl burst into the apartment and immediately start running around, barking orders. "Trust me, Spot, you don't need to worry. She's got Macbeth there now...that kid'll challenge death to a duel if she has to. And Rae told me she's got some experience with this." The shade went down just then, and Race scowled darkly at it.

Macbeth set the water on the stove, lit the stove to get it boiling, washed her own hands, and then ran to Rae's side and took her hand. "How you doing?" she asked softly.

Spot grit his teeth, forgetting the cigarette in his mouth. He made a face and spat the now useless cigarette out towards the street before storming up the fire escape to sit on the roof. If he stayed down there he knew he'd break the door or the window, he also knew that couldn't happen.

"I'm okay," Raven said. She wasn't great, but she was doing okay. "Getting tired." She admitted as well. She squeezed Macbeth's hand hard as another contraction hit and when it passed she breathed hard.
"Jesus..."

Beth did her best not to let any panic show on her face. This won't be like Ada. She's stronger than Ada. And the baby ain't backwards...as far as we know. She'll be fine, she'll be fine, she'll be fine. Even as her heart pounded with fear, she was letting go of Raven's hand, tying the end of a blanket around the bedpost, and handing the other end to Rae. "Tug on that if you need to. I'm gonna get things ready."
She glared at the midwife, a silent warning to bloody well do her job right, and ran around collecting a clean towel, some soap, and a sponge. She just hoped the sheets were clean. "You tell her to count the seconds between 'em?" she yelled at the midwife.

((HAH Macbeth is totally taking over))
"No, I find that makes them more nervous," The midwife explained, "I have been counting and they are getting closer about two minutes apart. Who are you?" The midwife said, crossing her arms.
Raven grabbed the tie that Macbeth made her and held it tight. "Uh I think they're closer than that."
"No, they're two minutes apart."

Race followed Spot up to the roof and silently handed him another cigarette. The only thing they could do now was wait, and waiting in silence was going to be pure hell. "You know the time Rae stole your old teddy bear, a few months before I left Brooklyn? Yeah, I told her where it was."

Spot had pulled another cigarette out, determined not to fuck that one up. When Race mentioned the Teddy bear Spot glared at him long and hard-did he want to get his ass beat?
'why?' he asked simply.

Macbeth set her supplies on the nightstand and got right up in the midwife's face. "She's the one having the baby, not you, and if she says they're closer'n two minutes, you're bloody well gonna listen to her!" She turned to Rae and put a hand on her arm, her manner changing completely. "Count the seconds, love, it'll help you focus. Don't push till you can feel the baby coming, whatever this bitch tells you."
((I love her so.))
