Mush waited outside the door of the Lodging House, watching as a few newsies struggled to walk to the distribution center, sleepiness hindering their ability to walk properly.
He kicked at some pebbles on the sidewalk, getting impatient for Ershey to arrive. Today was the day they were going to sell papes together, and already he was nervous.

Ershey made her way downstairs to the lobby, excited and nervous at the same time. She wasn't kidding when she said she was horrible at selling papers but having Mush see her in action? That was going to be interesting. Nevertheless, she was grateful for the company. She opened the door, her eyes scanning the street.
"Mornin'!" she shouted at him, walking towards a still sleepy-looking Mush.

Mush immediately perked up when he heard Ershey's voice shouting at him. My, she was cheerful.
"Oh, mornin'." He said, trying to smile but ending up stifling a yawn instead. "You ready?"

"I guess," she shrugged, quite nervous about the whole ordeal. She definitely didn't want to look stupid in front of Mush when trying to sell papers. "Got enough sleep last night?"

"When do newsies ever get enough sleep?" He asked, a half smile creeping onto his lips.
He walked over to the DC, allowing Ershey to get in front of him in line. "So, I figure you can get about twenty papes to start with. If you end up sellin' em all, we can come back and get a few more. Sound okay?"

Ershey stood in line, nodding as she listened to Mush. Exhaustion was creeping up with her too, as she began to stare at Mush and his words faded out into the distance.
"Oops," she muttered, realizing what she was doing. "E-er, yeah, sounds perfect." She bit her lip, unsure of what else to say. It was easy to note when Ershey was nervous: she was quiet.

Mush noticed she was quiet, but chalked it up to her being tired. They moved up the line rather speedily, Mush keeping quiet. He figured he would say everything while they were actually sellin'. He didn't want to bombard the girl this early before they even had papes to sell.

Ershey fiddled with her fingers, going through her mind about what they could possibly talk about while in line. Unfortunately, her brain wasn't cooperating and all Ershey wanted to do was stare at her feet. Realizing she was finally at the front of the line, she stepped forward and muttered, "Er, twenty papes." She pushed her payment forward and grabbed the papes as they were handed to her.
Grabbing them and moving aside, she kept her eyes on the headline, trying to act busy.

Mush got fifty papes quickly and walked up to Ershey.
"Not a bad headline, I suppose." He quipped, reading the bold print that stated Train Crash Kills Four People[/i].

Ershey nodded, finally glancing over at him. "Yeah, not bad. So, uh, how does this work?"
((Last one for today! Sleepy time for me!))

"Well..." Mush walked out to the street, looking around for a place no other newsies were hawking headlines.
"You find a spot, of course. Then you yell out the headline. If that doesn't get a lot of buyers, you add a little somethin'. Like, say these four people in the train were famous. That'd get people to buy papes."

Ershey was almost tempted to run all the way to Battery Park. There was a reason she sold papers so far away, less competition everywhere. It was her park and there hardly any other newsies around. Oh well, here goes.
"Daughters of President gets killed in train crash!" shouted Ershey, waving a paper around. It apparently worked since three people eyed her, gave her a couple coins and walked away, immersed in the newspaper.

"See? Then, once they actually get to read the article, they're too far away from you to yell at ya." Mush smiled before awkwardly patting her on the back.
"Good-- good job." His voice cracked as he said that which made his ears and cheeks turn red as a stop sign.

"Thanks," said Ershey, chuckling and quite amused at Mush's behavior. She noticed his red cheeks and couldn't help but smirk, following him closely and putting a stop to her selling papers. "Are you alright?"

"Fine. I'm fine." He managed to get out, though his eyes were fixed on the ground.
"I'm gonna. Just. Gonna go sell some papes." Mush cleared his throat, wondering why he was extra nervous and tongue-tied around Ershey. It was kind of strange. He walked a few yards away and started yelling that you wouldn't believe who had been killed in a massive train crash yesterday.
