Priest had set Monday up in a small apartment for doing business in Brooklyn -- the gang would know where to find Monday when they needed to, and he could have conversations without worrying about eavesdroppers.
Mostly Monday was just glad for the privacy. Boarding houses had their upsides, albeit few, but you couldn't sneeze without somebody watching. Tonight he was enjoying a brief and rare nap on the sofa.

Piper had met Monday on multiple occasions, and he seemed like a more respectful guy than the rest, but that still didn't mean piper wasn't nervous going to his place alone.
She made sure to have her knife on her if he tried anything. She knocked on the door, eager to get in and get out as quickly as possible.

At the knock, Monday sat up and frowned. Typical -- the second he tried to relax, someone interrupted.
"Piper," he said with some confusion as he opened the door and saw her there. Piper always put him on edge -- he never was quite sure how much of a pet she was to Priest. "Come in."

She walked in, nodding to him. "Sorry to bother," she said, glancing around his place. "You get a nice apartment and i get a shitty room at a boarding house."

He started to tell her he was getting more people in and out of his apartment than at her boarding house, but if the rumors about her were true, he wasn't sure the statement would be correct.
"Needed somewhere quiet for business," he said by way of an explanation instead. "Have a seat."

Piper took a seat, clearing her throat. "I hope I'm not disturbing you..."

He shook his head as he sat down on a chair. "Is something the matter?" he asked with a lifted eyebrow. He and Piper had never exactly been friends, so he doubted she was here just because she wanted to be.

"Jimmy Connelly. Heard you were associated with him. What do you know?" She asked blunty.

Monday lifted a shoulder, sitting forward in his chair with his elbows on his knees. "Nice enough kid, but can't bet on horses worth a damn. We've got him talkin' up potential customers. Why?"

Piper sighed. She could see Jimmy being a smooth talker, but she didn't like the thought of him caught up in this shit. "Priest wants me to dig up info on him. He's onto me, though."

"What does Priest want from Connelly?" Monday mused aloud as he sat up. He frowned over at her. "Jimmy's onto you? What's your plan?"

"priest seems threatened by him and his newsie gang," piper replied with a small eye roll. "He's loyal to a Spot Conlon. Apparently he's big news around here." piper was so sick and bored of all this. "as for my angle with Connelly, I have no clue. Told him my mother ran a whorehouse and I'm here taking care of a sick grandmother. He doesn't trust me."

"Priest is threatened by a bunch of newsies?" Monday repeated incredulously. "Must be gettin' paranoid." He shook his head and glanced back over at her. "I don't know what to tell you about Connelly, though. He doesn't trust me any either, and I'm not half as charming as you."

"I'm losing my touch," Piper grumbled. "I'm getting bitter."

Monday frowned -- she was getting bitter? Christ, maybe they did need to get out of Brooklyn. It seemed like half of Priest's gang was having second thoughts. And now Piper too? Not to mention Monday's own brief fling with having morals.
"You're not losing your touch," he assured her. "You're probably just not used to dealing with somebody who isn't a bad person. Even I feel bad about dragging Connelly into our business."
