Lillian took a card from the pile and added it to her hand.
"And what makes you think you would be dealing with my angry boyfriend, were I to have one?" This guy was pretty confident. But, then, he was from America.

"Uh, um..." Shit. Think fast, Ryan. "Guys just get jealous fast, y'know? Especially when you're around a bunch of soldiers. I'd hate to leave my pretend girlfriend with guys that haven't seen a girl in months. Especially with you being so pretty and all..."

"Smooth, soldier boy. Very smooth." Maybe he wasn't as confident as she thought he was. Lillian liked that.
"Your turn, then."

Ryan grinned, mentally patting himself on the back. He still had it. Sort of.
"Got any 10's?"

Lillian scowled at him before handing over her two 10's.
"What about you? Maybe you've got some emotional damsel in distress waiting for you back home..."

"Nope," he answered, shaking his head. "No damsels. Maybe a mother in distress but no girls. I don't know how those guys do it, writing to them and waiting for them to reply back."
Taking her two 10's, Ryan couldn't help but grin as he laid down a set. "Go Fish."

"You don't say Go Fish when you have a set!" Lillian cried, laughing. "You only say Go Fish when you don't have the card the other person is asking for. Or do they play it differently in America?"

Oh yeah...
"Doesn't matter! You were going to win, anyway, Ms. Go Fish Expert!" said Ryan, pointing at the sets she already laid down. "We just like making our own rules in America, alright?" he laughed, shaking his head at her. He felt relieved, realizing that he hadn't laughed this much in a while. He was grateful for Lillian. She was a breath of fresh air.

Lillian set her cards down, shooting Ryan a very bashful look.
"Well... Go Fish is actually the only card game I'm an expert in." She shrugged before taking all the cards and putting them back into a nice and neat deck.
"...What's it like in America?"

"Hmm, crazy..." he said, trying to remember what it was like back home. He hadn't been back in so long that he was starting to forget. "Everyone's crazy about the war... but discounting that, we've got the best music around. I don't care what anyone says, Frank Sinatra's great."

Lillian smiled brightly, her eyes twinkling.
"I adore Frank. I always listen to him, no matter what mood I'm in. I need cheering up, Frank. I need to sort out problems, Frank. I need a good cry, Frank."

Ryan laughed, shaking his head at her. "You're somethin' else," he muttered, eyes twinkling. "Uh, I meant Frank. He's something else. He's, uh... real great."

"Yes, he is, isn't he?" Lillian couldn't keep a smirk off her face. "There's a lovely little club just down the way that plays Frank all the time."

"Right. Uh, some of the guys and I go there once in a while," he said, trying to keep his cool. He was determined to act cool and not like a blubbering teenager. This is what happens after no interaction with females for months, he figured.
"It's fun to go but only when we're up to dancing... with girls, I mean."

"I was actually there the other night, and a soldier asked me to dance. Can't remember his name, though... Not that I was drunk or anything, I'm just not very good with names."
In the back of her mind, she was begging Ryan to ask her to the club once his arm had healed.
