((I did! It's 2:21 a.m.! ^_^ But at least I've got more hours than I did in Maine! I'll play tomorrow, promise.))

He looked at her in surprise. Return of the questions? Well, why not? It was nice, familiar ground.
"Hot-air balloon," he decided. "With a really big basket, 'cause I'd want about a dozen people in it, including you, of course. And about a dozen bottles of wine," he decided. "We'd go floating up until New York was just a tiny speck, and we wouldn't come down till we were all too drunk to ever be sober again." He nodded with satisfaction. "Oh, and we'd play some cards up there. Obviously."

"Obviously," Sapphy beamed, thinking for a moment. "I'd go to the future," she said softly. "I bet it's nice there -- I'd like to see it for myself and learn all the new dances that haven't been invented yet."

He smiled. "Well, that's easier than my idea. All you gotta do is wait. The future comes to you."

"Not the future-future," Sapphy said, gesturing out in front of her. "It's too far away."

"That's true. We'd have to invent a time machine," Race said, thinking of the H.G. Wells novel Skittery lent him once. "Is there a question two?"

((Hey Miss, don't forget our greaser crack! )) Sapphy's eyes turned up, thinking. "What do you want to do when you're done being a newsie?"

((Clearly it just took Greaser!Race this long to recover from Sapphy's hands on his hips.))
He winced a little at this question. "I've been thinking about that lately. And honestly? I have no idea. I keep seeing myself being a newsie forever, or gambling everything away and ending up on the streets, or maybe running a seedy casino...and it all sounds kind of miserable. I guess I'm waiting for something better to occur to me. How 'bout you?"

((omg I found Cry-Baby in it's entirety on Youtube. I know what I'm doing tonight!! ;D ))
"I'm not really good at much," Sapphy sighed. "I should have become a dancer, but I'm not good enough at it. Maybe I'll just end up a schoolmarm. I'm good with kids..."

"At least you can always dance for fun." The thought of Sapphy as a schoolmarm was surprising at first, but he could kind of see it. She had that no-nonsense practicality when it came to stupid things like gambling or fighting. "I'm not bad with kids either, believe it or not. I actually...I could see myself running a lodging house. Like Kloppman. Taking in kids like us with no other place to go, and helping 'em get their lives in order." The idea had only just occurred to him, but it was the first possible image of his future that he didn't find depressing.

"I think you'd be good at that," Sapphy smiled at him. "It's a good idea."

"It is, isn't it? And I think you'd make a pretty good schoolmarm. I might even send some of my bookish lodgers your way," he said, before realizing that he was picturing his future lodging house right here in New York, and she intended to end up across the country.
But this was all in the future. Who knew if they'd even make it that far? "One more question for you!"

Sapphy thought and thought and thought as they made their way closer to the lodging house.
"Who is your best friend -- or friends, and why?" She was really curious about how Blink, Mush, and Race all came together in the first place.
