"I, uh... er," stammered Ryan. He definitely wasn't planning on doing any of this tonight.
"It's... on it's way," he smirked, nodding. "The best and finest right for the most beautiful lady I know."

Lillian nodded knowingly, smirking right back at him.
"Okay. Well, just for reference, I like emeralds..."

"Alright. Any other requests?" he smiled, glad to know that she wasn't mad with rage that he didn't have a ring just yet.

A blush overcame Lillian's face and she fixed her eyes on their feet.
"Would you... I mean, when you get a ring. Could you maybe... Propose? I don't know you don't have to it's just something I've thought about since I was little and it would be nice but it sounds kind of cheesy now so you don't have to I guess."

Ryan laughed, nodding his head.
"Of course I wil!" he smiled, gently touching her cheek. "What, you thought I was just going to hand it to you and it'll be done? I'm not that unromantic, Lillian."

Lillian couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.
"Okay. Just... Checking."

"It'll be a grand surprise," he smiled, winking playfully at her.

The clock in the room struck eight, and Lillian's heart race. "Supper will be over soon. We should get out of here before people start leaving the dining room." She took his hand and let him out into the hallway.

Ryan nodded, fixing himself with his free hand as he followed Lillian out into the hallway.
"You think they'll be in the parlor?" he asked curiously as he peeked into the dining room. "I'd hate to fake a conversation right now... then again, we can announce our plans." He smiled at her widely, loving the fact that they finally agreed to their engagement.

"No, are you mad?!" She hissed as she continued to lead him back to the foyer.
"I can't let anyone see me like this!" Her hair was falling out of her pins and much of it was ruffled beyond repair. "I'm going to go upstairs using a secret staircase, faking a headache, of course. You... Well, you're on your own. I can help you sneak back to your house if you want."

"You're just going to leave me here?!" said Ryan, sounding like a five year old. He knew his family wasn't slow. They'd figure out soon enough that if both Ryan and Lillian were gone, something was up. Then again, they were still under the notion that they hated each other.

Lillian rolled her eyes and stopped suddenly, pointing to a random door that led outside.
"Just go out through there, go home, and tell your family we had an argument. I irritated you so much that you got a splitting headache and couldn't possibly sit through dinner."

"Alright, alright," smiled Ryan as he glanced over at the door before kissing her on the forehead. "I'll see you soon."
Doing as he was told, Ryan slipped out of the room. It didn't take him too long to figure out where he was since the dining room and parlor were easily seen from outside. Making sure he looked presentable, Ryan walked inside the mansion once again. Greeted by confused looks and angry comments, he simply rattled on about his irritation with Lillian.
"...so we couldn't make it to dinner," he said sadly as he explained the story to his family.

Lillian raced upstairs, hastily changed into her nightclothes, and got into bed. It wasn't ten minutes before her parents knocked on her door, asking question.
She put on the best act she could, squinting and speaking in a sickly voice. Oh, she has a terrible headache caused by that annoying, pompous American "fiancee" of hers. Her mother stroked her loose hair and spoke in soothing tones. It worked perfectly.

With his father grumbling and his mother muttering about failed marriages, Ryan couldn't help but laugh to himself as he excused himself to his room. He fell down on his bed, too overwhelmed by what just happened a couple of hours ago. He knew he needed to get some rest if he was going to properly propose...
