She nodded. "You're dangerous. I'm not saying you mean to be, but you're too damn easy to talk to, and my life story ain't something I wanna go delving into. If you wanna talk to me, though, I'm all ears." She leaned against the arm of the couch. "Family, this guy of yours, whatever...I'll prob'ly be interested."

Sapphy considered Macbeth thoughtfully.
"...I've read the news today and. Oh boy." she sighed.
((Sorry, I couldn't resist.))

((Haha, might as well get it started.))
"That bad, huh?" Macbeth read the news, of course, being a newsie, but she barely noticed it anymore. All the politics, feel-good anecdotes, and tragedies ran together in her mind.

"I don't know, lately... The blood and gore that sell is getting to me. The latest is that child killer up north. I got my papers with my man, took one look at that headline, and excused myself to cry hysterically in an alleyway. I don't know. The urge to cry just came over me..."

Beth gave Sapphy a curious look. She seemed too soft and sensitive for this city; how had she even lasted this long? "You maybe ought to've not excused yourself," she suggested. "If you trust him, I mean. Couldn't you talk to him about it, if it's getting you down?" Granted, she wasn't exactly the expert on romantic relationships. Her last count was zero.

"If I tell him I'm crying in an alleyway over some story in the paper, he's going to needlessly worry." She shook her head. "I'm fine. It was just a weird moment. I dunno. With little kids... It makes me sick to my stomach."

She nodded. "It is fucking sick, I ain't denying that. It's just, it ain't really something I think about anymore. Not that we needed any more proof that you're a better person than me."

"You should meet my niece," Beth said with a faint smile. "She don't say much yet, though."

"About two?" Sapphy guessed.

"Yeah. As of this past June. Dunno what I'm gonna do with the kid, really." The thought of raising any child made her blood run cold. She'd ruin the kid for sure.

"Where is she?" Sapphy smiled. She could tell by the change of tone in Macbeth's voice that she really cared for her niece.

"An orphanage just over the bridge. I whisked her to London and back, too--she's becoming quite the little globetrotter." Macbeth stopped as she realized what was happening. "You got me talking again! Not fair, go back to the sad headlines."

"They're sad and getting sadder," Sapphy said, knowing not to ask any questions.

"The world's going to hell," she agreed, and believed it wholeheartedly.
