Script stood in the kitchen humming to herself as she mixed a large bowl of cookie dough. She was barefoot, hair tied back to keep it out of her eyes. She'd probably been overly ambitious with the amount of cookies she was prepping to make, but she was sure someone would come around to eat them, anyway.
((Come on in, folks, the water's fine))

((Please tell me that was an "Eight Miles Wide" reference. ;D And, hmm, I do have a character who could really use cookies right now...))
Goblin had barely been indoors in the few days since he got out of the Refuge--the roof and the front porch were much better places to brood. But today, he finished selling early and followed a fantastic smell into the kitchen, where a girl he'd never seen before appeared to be baking. "Hey," he said with a smile. "Don't think we've met."

Script turned to face him, caught nibbling a bit of the dough from the spoon, and blushed, setting the bowl and spoon on the counter. She wiped her hands on the front of her pants before offering him one. "Sorry, hi. Script. Or Maggie. Whatever." She flashed him a smile.

((Haha, don't even worry, I've done it SO many times.))
He shook his head. "Sorry for interrupting! I'm Goblin." He shook her hand. "Whatcha making?"
She must be new...seems friendly, genuine, not scared or sad or trying to hide something, which is a nice change around here... He tried to turn off the analysis, he really did; he'd been trying ever since Sapphy called him out on it. It wasn't an easy habit to break, though.

She flashed him another smile. "Cookies. Chocolate chip. Just took the first batch out of the oven a couple minutes ago, if you want one." She moved over to the stove where she'd laid the cookie sheet to rest and cool. "Goblin, huh? Interesting name choice. I thought goblins were supposed to be ugly."

He chuckled. "I think the kids who gave me that name were going with the 'sneaky and devious' angle." He raised an eyebrow at the sheer number of cookies. "You having a party or something?"

She flushed a little, sending him a sheepish smile. "I know, I got a little carried away, didn't I?" She lifted a shoulder, bringing a cookie over to him, offering. "I like baking. It relaxes me. Guess I needed a lot of relaxing today."

"Thanks!" He took it, munched it, and smiled at her. "Delicious. Why'd you need to relax, if you don't mind me asking?" Talking about other people's problems sounded lovely.

"Thanks! I'm glad you liked it." She smiled at him before moving to the counter in order to dollop cookie dough onto an empty sheet. "Well, I guess I'm just adjusting is all. I've only been here a couple days. Haven't really met many people. Guess I've just felt lonely." She looked over at him, offered him a spoon of cookie dough.

He grinned and sampled it. "Haven't done that in years. I feel like my sister's gonna come running in here to yell at me for it. She always wanted the first spoonful." He glanced a bit anxiously at the door, then nodded at her explanation. "The first few days are tough. I haven't really met a lot of people, honestly, and I've been here a while." Well, on and off... "You should try Tibby's or Irving Hall, that's where everyone seems around here seems to hang out. And I'm sure you'll make some friends with those cookies," he teased.

She flushed again and smiled brightly at him. "Thanks, I might do that." She moved the cookie sheet into the oven, setting the timer. "It probably doesn't help me so much that I'm a bit of a homebody." She moved to the counter, hopping up to sit on it, looking at him. "I mean, I go out. When I feel like it. But mostly I like cuddling up at home or something."

He leaned against the counter and shrugged. "Hey, that works too. Plenty of interesting folks passing through the lobby and the lounge. You can always sit in a corner, watch people go in and out, see who looks friendly..." He paused. "Uh, not that I sit around watching people. That'd be creepy..." He'd pretty much catalogued the entire lodging house that way.

She laughed at that, leaning to nudge against his shoulder playfully. "Aw, it's not creepy. It's just people watching. People watching's fun. You can learn a lot about them, especially when they think no one's looking." She enjoyed the practice herself. Though interacting with people was just as fun, especially good interaction. She kinda liked interacting with him, if she was going to be honest.

"You can learn a lot from talking to people too," he commented. "So, why don'cha kill some time while those cookies are baking and tell me about yourself?" Which was probably the most direct question he'd ever asked anyone in his life.
