Kathryn was feeling rebellious tonight - but really when wasn't she? She had convinced her friend, Tara, to come to Irving Hall tonight. It wasn't their usual place, but Kathryn knew a lot of newsies liked to go there. And she was secretly hoping to see Blink. And if he was there, she was secretly planning to make him jealous. But of course this wasn't her main plan for the night. She just wanted to have fun with her friend. Obviously.
She pushed open the door and walked proudly inside, her arm looped through Tara's loosely.

Tara looked around eagerly. She was in an excellent mood, even for Tara. One of her classiest friends actually wanted to come to a sketchy vaudeville theater and hang out with newsies! How often did that happen?
"I didn't think it'd be so big," she said to Kathryn. "Look at them all! Do you think any of my friends are here? I have some newsie friends now, you know. Do you think anyone would dance with me? Do you see Blink? You should find Blink! You should--oh, no, hide me!" This last statement coincided with her spotting a familiar face at the bar. Sebastia--Goblin--clearly didn't see her yet, and she wanted to keep it that way.

The only things Kathryn had heard her say were the two sentences involving Blink. She had learned long ago to weed out only the important things Tara said.
"I don't care if Blink's here, I told you!" Kathryn hissed, trying to face her though Tara kept trying to hide behind her.

"Liar!" Tara said, forgetting about Goblin for a moment. "You haven't talked about anything for the past week except how annoying he is! Of course you care." Then she leaned close to Kathryn and whispered dramatically, "See that boy over there? That's Sebastian Pearson." Everyone in society knew the scandalous story of how the two Pearson kids ran away four years ago and were never seen again. Everyone pretended not to know it, of course, but they all knew it nonetheless.

"I grew up with him," Tara explained. "Well, mostly with his sister. And I just found out they're living at the lodging house on Duane Street, but Sebastian isn't speaking to me. And if he decides to speak to me, we're going to fight. Loudly. Because that's all we ever did." Looking around wildly, she let out a squeal of delight when she spotted Jack and Moonshine. "Look! I know them too! Let's go talk to them. Maybe Blink will see us and get jealous," she said, dragging Kathryn toward them.

Kathryn didn't respond, because that's exactly what she was planning on doing. She tried to make it seem like she was resisting, though; she didn't want to seem too eager to make Blink jealous. If he was even here...
She smoothed some stray hairs back as they approached the two fine looking gentlemen.

"Hi! Remember me? Tara Fields," Tara reminded them, attempting to smooth her hair in imitation of Kathryn. Her wild red curls were having none of it. "This is my friend, Kath--I mean--" She turned to Kathryn and stage-whispered, "Are you using an alias?"

Kathryn nudged Tara aside with her elbow, smiling flirtatiously at the two boys.
"Kathryn Van Wyck." She introduced herself, holding her hand out.

Jack smirked, he couldn't help himself, what the hell were these two society ladies doing here. "Hey Tara, nice to see you again. Find your friend?" He spit in his hand and clamped it onto Kathryn's, "Jack Kelly." He introduced himself.

Tara nudged Kathryn. "Don't be rude! It's a custom." She smiled at Jack. "I found her! A boy called Risk helped me." She shot another nervous look at Goblin, but he appeared to be deep in conversation with another girl. "How are you two on this very fine night?"

Moonshine smirked at the two girls in front of him, casting a sideways glance at Jack before taking Tara's hand and kissing her knuckles. "Nice ta see ya again, Sugar." He moved to flash Kathryn a charming smile, kissing her knuckles as well. "And it's certainly nice ta meet you."
