Better Options (Open-ish!)

[Kathryn]

"Mmm, lovely night," Kathryn replied before sipping her drink once more. "Makes you wonder why anyone would want to stay in." Ahem. KID. BLINK. Ahem. Not that she cared.

[Tara]

Tara sipped her beer and considered Jack's question. "We yell at each other a lot. Then, once in a while, one of us gets upset about something, and then we sit around being quiet and thoughtful together and end up having long discussions about life." She glanced at the door. "Or that's how it was when we were children, anyway. Now...I don't really know."

She never had answered his question about how things went with Wraith. Strangely was probably the word she would have used. She didn't know what was up with either of them anymore.

[Goblin]

"Yes, we're even," he assured her with a laugh. "And if you're really that curious, go ahead, ask me something. Maybe I'll even answer." He really hoped she appreciated the offer, seeing as he would generally sooner shoot himself in the head than invite questions.

[Moonshine]

Moonshine smirked, watching her curiously. He couldn't figure out what a girl like her would want with a bunch of newsies, except maybe the thrill of doing something she wasn't supposed to. "Well, Sugar, I'm awful glad Jack here invited me out. Meant I got ta meet a pretty gal like you." He sent her a wink and brought a hand up to brush a piece of stray hair behind her ear.

[Script]

Script smiled at him. "All right." She thought a moment, then looked at him, biting her bottom lip. "Why are you so intent on keeping yourself off of everybody's radar? What are you scared of?"

[Kathryn]

Kathryn could feel her cheeks flush, and she silently chided herself for being so easy to get to. But, then again, it might have been the alcohol.

"Why did you come to New York, anyway? Not that I'm complaining, of course," she added with a very coy smile.

[Moonshine]

At that, Moonshine flushed, sending her a sheepish grin. "Ah, well...I was helpin' my cousins with an...operation, of sorts. The Law caught wind of it, and my folks said I should head out for a while." He sent her a wink. "Guess I'm not a totally good guy, after all"

[Kathryn]

"On the run from the law, eh?" Kathryn eyed him in a new light. "I guess I shouldn't mention my father is the mayor of this great city...?"

[Moonshine]

Moonshine arched a brow at that information, but flashed her a charming grin, leaning in close to her. "Aw, now, Sugar, ya wouldn't want ta go and get lil' ol' me in any trouble, would ya?" He gave her a mock-pout. "Thought'chu were warmin' up ta me."

[Kathryn]

Kathryn leaned in, as well, their noses almost touching.

"I'll keep your secret if you keep mine. I'm not exactly supposed to be here tonight."

[Moonshine]

Moonshine grinned, eyes bright as he looked at her. He kept his voice low, husky, "Ya know, Sugar, I don't know how much of a secret that is. Pretty obvious. I think I deserve a better secret." See, Jack, he thought to himself. The game is what makes it all fun and worthwhile.

Jack laughed, "Well that seems like a complicated friendship...specially to have as little kids." He shrugged, "the way I look at it is, either you'se can all sort it out and be friends again or you've outgrown each other." He took a sip of his beer.

[Kathryn]

"And why do you think that?" She had lowered her voice to match his, narrowing her eyes teasingly at him.

[Moonshine]

"Well, it's only fair, ain't it?" He lifted a hand to casually play with the end of a piece of her hair. "We wanna be fair, don't we?"

[Kathryn]

"Life isn't always fair. I'm sure you've figured that out by now," she chuckled softly, watching as he played with her hair.
