Sapphy was with Race under a tree in Central Park, her head in his lap as she laid on her back in the grass. She tried to enjoy this moment -- the weather would be starting to get cold soon but right now it was perfect outside.
There was just the right amount of sunshine, clouds, and warmth mostly radiating from a rather swell fella... Sapphy opened her eyes and smiled up at Race briefly.

Race smiled down at her and brushed a stray lock of hair out of her eyes. It was a perfect moment in a perfect day as far as he was concerned--and Sapphy seemed happy, too. He always kept an eye on her moods...ever since they got together, ever since Copper's warning. He'd thought she seemed a little off lately, a little quiet and fretful, but today, she was smiling like she hadn't a care in the world.
"Let me know if you see any little kids coming," he said, glancing around mock-nervously. "Sometimes they attack me around here and beg me to do card tricks."

With that brand new information, Sapphy sat up and turned herself around to face Race. She crossed her legs and expectantly put out both her hands.

Race laughed--he'd forgotten what Copper said about her and card tricks. "You sure? I mean, they're not all that impressive..." He was suddenly a little embarrassed. Card games were one thing, but he didn't exactly think of himself as a performer; it was a last-resort money-maker for him.

Sapphy didn't move her outstretched hands. Her smile slowly turned into a smirk.

He made a face at her. "Fine." He took out his deck, undid the twine around it, and set it in her outstretched hands. "Pick a card, don't show me, put it back in the deck."

The seven of clubs.
Sapphy slid it back in and placed the deck in Racetrack's hands.

He cut the deck a few times, doing it slowly and fanning through the cards for dramatic effect. Then he turned the cards face-up and spread them out in front of him, sifting through them and looking at one after another. He pulled out the seven of clubs and smiled. "Would this be your card?"

Sapphy squirmed happily, beaming at Race.
"How'd you do that?"

"Would it be any fun if I told you the trick?" Race asked, eyes widening.

"Fair enough," Sapphy agreed, slumping his shoulders slightly. "...You know any others?" she asked hopefully.

"A few," he admitted. "I learned 'em all from the same guy who taught me the games. I'm pretty sure all he ever did was sit around with a deck of cards and figure out new things to do with it." He flipped through the deck and pulled out two cards at random--or it looked like only two cards--and held them up to show her: the Ace of Spades and the Three of Diamonds. Then he shuffled them between his fingers very quickly, and by the time they were face-up again, they had transformed into the King of Hearts and the Six of Clubs.

Sapphy giggled and applauded Racetrack.
"Gotta admit, I'm a sucker for this stuff even though it's not real magic."

"I wish I knew the real kind," Race said, smiling at the thought. "Turning things into food or money, that'd come in handy. What would you want to do?" he asked her, falling into their long-held tradition of asking each other random questions.

"I'd close my eyes," she said, doing so. "And when I open them, I'd be somewhere completely different." She opened her eyes again, smiling at Race. "Travel easily."
