"I knew you were magic all along," Sapphy said, rather genuinely, for such a teasing moment.

He touched her cheek. "You know that trick where someone's passing by and you don't want them to see your face, so you turn around and kiss the person next to you? I wonder if that really works?" He leaned in and kissed her, just in case.

Sapphy kissed Racetrack back, amused. She curled her fingers into his.

Race squeezed her hand and tipped her back against the tree, his other hand cushioning the back of her head. When he could finally bring himself to stop kissing her, he looked up and saw that the children were nowhere in sight. "It worked! I owe you lots and lots of power."

Sapphy sighed.
"I'll add you to the list."

"Will it count if I teach you a card trick? You really can't imagine the benefits. Wealth, fame, new friends, being the center of attention at parties..."

"Because all she ever wanted was all of the above," Sapphy narrated, giving Race a smirk. "I'd rather not know how you do your magic."

"I'll look into getting you that gang, then." He put the cards away and settled for cuddling instead. "So how've you been lately? Good selling? Keeping Copper outta trouble?"

"Decent selling, not good. And I'm not my brother's keeper," she grumbled, cuddling back into Racetrack just the same. "And you?"

"Not bad. Did you hear Risk's Ershey's long-lost brother?" He was pretty sure it was all over the lodging house by now. "Other than hanging with those two...which I wouldn't really recommend, 'cause they're kind of insane when they're together...and assuring poor Rae that her baby's gonna make an appearance eventually, I ain't really been up to much."

"An appearance? What is she worried about?" she frowned with concern.

"She's just over the whole pregnancy thing--wants to get that kid outta her as soon as possible," he said with a smile. The smile melted away after a moment, though. "But also...I think she's just scared. Which makes me pretty much terrified, even though I'm sure she'll be fine." He sighed. "She wants me to be there...I just hope I don't pass out."

"Stay by her head, and you should be fine, Anthony," she murmured, pressing her cheek into his chest.

"I'll keep that in mind," he said, stroking her hair. If the prospect of becoming a godfather made him this nervous and excited, he couldn't imagine what it would be like having kids of his own. "You know she's gonna name it Sean if it's a boy? That was my dad's name...and it's Irish, so I'm sure Spot'll approve."

"And if it's a girl?" she asked curiously.
