"That'd be a good one," he agreed, wondering where he'd go. Italy, maybe. Naples, where Raven was born. He didn't exactly need to ask Sapphy where she'd go--she'd been talking about it since they first met. He looked down at her and kissed her nose instead.

"I'd take you with me, of course," she whispered, closing her eyes and wishing.

"I would hope so," he said, stroking her hair. "We've got the plan, after all, with the horses. D'you know how your parents are doing?" he asked gently.

She shook her head.
"Working hard, I suppose."

He nodded. "They'll get there eventually. And so will you." Us? He couldn't picture himself in California, nor did he have any idea where he'd get the money to travel there. Or what he'd do once he got there. Or what the hell Raven and Mush and Blink and the others would do without him.
Well, it wasn't like they had to cross that bridge yet.

Sapphy leaned in and kissing Race softly, lingering on him. She smiled against his lips.

He leaned back against the tree and pulled her close, returning her slow, soft kisses--they seemed to fit the weather and the lazy mood. "Anything you wanna do today?" he asked, playing idly with the button on her collar, "or is it a lounge-around-in-the-park kinda day?"

"Lounge in the park," she sighed. "Unless you have anything more exciting in mind."

"Not much," he admitted. "'Course, you never know who you're gonna run into in the park." A couple of familiar kids came skipping across the grass with their parents, looking around hopefully. Race hid behind Sapphy.

"Hmmm... I wonder what you'll give me to not rat you out right now," Sapphy grinned, looking over her shoulder at the children.

"Well, obviously that depends on what you want," Race said, ducking as the little girl glanced in their direction.

"Power..." Sapphy sighed wistfully.

"Hmm. You know I have connections in Brooklyn," Race said thoughtfully. "I could possibly make you the leader of a minor gang. Or are we talking magical-type power? Because that, uh...might prove more challenging."

"Well, why would I want it to be something easy for you?" Sapphy grinned. At this point, the kids were on the other side of the park, but she didn't notice.

Race was giving Sapphy a hurt look and didn't notice either. "Because you like me?" His eyes widened. "Or you heard about my card tricks a few months ago, and this was all an elaborate scheme to learn my magical secrets."
