Five gentleman flocked toward Tara and purchased papers immediately, Jack started laughing.
"Well looks like you don't need my help, by all means, feel free to take over." He laid out his hand, offering her control of newsie square as he headed off down the street.

"Hey, Jack?" she called after him casually, scanning the paper again. "Want to meet somewhere for lunch?"

She chuckled to herself and went back to selling papers. After five minutes, she had set them down beside Horace Greeley's foot to relieve the ache in her arms and back. After ten more minutes, she was bored. Tongue between her teeth, determined to stick it out, she went right on selling, concentrating on her ultimate goal: lunch with Jack at two, with a good chunk of these papers sold so she'd have a way to impress him.

Jack had been lurking around of course, watching her, seeing how she was doing. He shook his head when he could tell she was getting bored. He walked over to her and leaned against good old Horace.
"Ain't fun no more huh?" He asked her and then lit up a smoke.

Tara jumped when he suddenly appeared again. "That's not fair! You should be selling your own papers," she scolded. "And, um...it's just...challenging. You have to think of ways to keep yourself entertained. What if I chased people back and forth across the square while waving papers and shrieking maniacally?" she suggested.
((I think Tara probably has ADHD. <3))

Jack burst out laughing, "You'll get arrested for being a crazed newsie and disturbing the peace." He took a drag of his smoke and shook his head.
"I'm half done already. I'm the pro here ya know?" He smiled at her.
((HAHA meanwhile Jack is so calm and collected))

She grinned back. "Well, feel free to sell some of mine too. I'll bet I could learn a lot from you." A sudden mad idea occurred to her, which was a pretty frequent occurrence with Tara. "Wait! I've got it!" She grabbed a handful of papers, strode across the square to apprehend a balding middle-aged man, and began to chat rapidly with him, tilting her head and batting her eyes and laughing. Her papers were gone in a flash. She walked back to Jack, looking kind of smug, then wilted a little. "Though I guess I could get arrested for that too if I'm not careful."

Jack burst out laughing, "Ya know...that was pretty good, just be careful who you solicit from now on. You're...something ya know that?"

"What kind of something?" she asked suspiciously, pausing to hawk an actual headline or two. The pennies in her purse were accumulating at a nice rate. She could buy candy! Or bubblegum! Oh, the possibilities.

"Just...something," he laughed and hawked some headlines as well, selling about five more papers. Jack liked to take his time through the day, wandering to different selling spots, but he could see Tara wasn't gonna have any of it.

Tara, in fact, was restless as hell and would have loved to walk around. And after another paper or two, she figured she might as well say so. "Could we walk around with these a bit? We might stumble on something exciting."

"Sure I don't mind, I usually wander around anyways and sell as I go." He said with a shrug and tossed his smoke to the ground, heading off down the street.

She heaved her papers over her shoulder and followed him, thinking she might stick with this gig purely for the purpose of developing some muscles. You never knew when a fistfight or an impromptu wrestling match would come about. "So what's it like being the unofficial leader of all those newsies? Do they cause a lot of trouble?"

"Believe it or not, no. The Hattan newsies are pretty tame compared to some of the other ones in this city." Jack said with a shrug as he walked and sold papes. "It's hard though...they look to me to guide them and help them sort out problems when sometimes I really got no clue what to do."
