Tyler snorted. "Ya owe me, man. And I, uh, think ya might owe Maggie one, too." He walked away to guide the car in, getting to work.
Maggie walked back into th garage. "Hey, Shaye. Time for your break." She looked at Kevin, nearly glaring. "You. Finish Huxley"s car."

"You want me to work in my condition?!" Kevin demanded groggily as Shaye slid out from underneath the car. She tossed her brother a rag and laughed.
"Suck it up, you big baby. You could do this job in your sleep."
Kevin glared at his siste, but went to put on a cover suit anyway.

Maggie stared after him, glaring, practically boring holes into his back. She was clearly deep in thought, not noticing Shaye standing beside her right away.

Okay, so she wasn't ALWAYS respectable to her friends' thoughts being off-limits. She already knew about Maggie's ill-fated crush on Kevin. So just the same... She absently tapped her finger to her temple, tuning in on Maggie.

Maggie's thoughts were a stormy mixture of anger, resentment, jealousy, and love-sick adoration. Jenna Downey?! Seriously?! He'll take a turn on the neighborhood slut, but won't even look twice at me. Wonderful. Perfect. Way to boost a girl's ego. I'm not even good enough for a total manwhore. Outloud, she muttered under her breath, "Ugh, you suck..." then caught herself, finally noticing Shaye, blushing furiously. "Uh, I mean...there's brownies in the breakroom. I made them this morning."

Sapphy put an arm around Maggie, empathetically.
"Thanks, Mags. What would I do without your baking?"

Maggie smiled at her, but she was still terribly pink with embarrassment. "All of you would starve to death. When Kevin's done, send him to the office?" She kissed her cheek affectionately, shooting a rather longing look at Kevin'sfeet sticking out from under the car, then turned and walked back into the office.
Tyler sauntered up to Shaye, wiping his hands on a rag. "Poor kid's a gonner." He shot her a grin, wiping off a bit of smudge on her nose. "It's your break, ain't it? Maggie brought brownies. Come and have one with me. I need more coffee."

Shaye nodded, tapping her temple slightly. Whenever she read Tyler's thoughts, it put her in a good mood.

Tyler loved Maggie like a sister, and his thoughts reflected it. Poor, Mags. Kevin doesn't know what he's missin'. Funny thing is, I think he's clueless about it. Can't figure how he misses it. She always makes his cookies bigger than the rest of ours. He smirked inwardly, heading into the breakroom and to the coffee pot. Outloud he asked, "Want some, Sugar?" His thoughts strayed. Shaye's a good catch, too. More mellow than Maggie. And she's awful pretty. He shot her a sidelong look, pouring himself a cup. Yeah. Definitely pretty.
Meanwhile, Maggie was sitting behind the desk in the office, chewing on a nail. She should have been looking over receipts, but her eyes kept flicking up to the door, watching for Kevin to come in.

"No thanks, buddy," Shaye laughed. "And don't worry about Mags. She can take care of herself."
Kevin was dozing underneath Huxley's car.

Tyler archer a brow at her emphasi on the word 'buddy,' but just grinned at her. He drank his coffee in comfortable silence for a minute, munching on a brownie. "Hey, Shaye? How'd ya figure out who yer brother was with last night?"
After a while, Maggie stopped hearing the usual sounds of someone working in the garage and frowned. She got up and walked out of the office, hearing heavy breathing coming from under Huxley's car. She frowned and put her hands on her hips, kicking Kevin's foot. "Kevin! Office. Now."

"Something he text me last night suddenly made sense," she shrugged. Her usual cop-out answer.
"Whaaaat?" Kevin groaned, pushing out from underneath the car. He glared up at Maggie indigently.

Tyler watched her for a minute, sipping his coffee. "Yeah? Cuz he didn't seem like he wanted you ta know nothin'." Stuff like this happened all the time. She couldn't possibly get that many confessional text messages.
Maggie glowered down at him, refraining from just kicking in his teeth. "You heard me. Office. Now." She turned on her heel and stalked back to the office, perching on the edge of the desk, pushing hair out of her eyes.

"Well, you know how Kevin drunk texts," Shaye laughed. Which was true. Last night she did receive a message from him along the lines of: Come pick me up, I'm on the corner of 3rd and hot dog vendor.
Kevin slunk in after her, falling into the first available chair.
"Yeah, Boss?" he asked. Kevin was notorious for pulling the 'you work for my father' card and it looked as though today would be no exception.

Tyler snorted. "He does do that a lot, don't he. Did I tell ya about the time he texted me thinkin' he texted Tina Sommers? I answered him back, talked him into meetin' me in the park. Drove over and sat in my truck, watching 'im freeze his ass off on a swing set, thinkin' he was gonna get laid." He flashed her a grin, winking at her. He had a dozen more stories just like that. He wondered how many stupid texts Kevin had sent his sister over the years.
Maggie frowned at him. "First of all, Kevin, don't talk to me like that. It's rude. Second of all, you knew we were on our own this weekend. You were too busy getting your rocks off, you couldn't even manage getting here on time."
