He glanced at her as he led her up stairs. "You sleep in the attic?" He pulled down the attic ladder, letting her go up first and then following, pulling the ladder up and shutting the trap door behind him. He pulled the light cord, though it didn't brighten the room much.

He moved to sit beside her. "Well, if ya ever need a break from her, there's plenty a' bunks here for you to crash on." He leaned his back against the wall, getting comfortable.

She didn't reply; she had no intention of ever sleeping here. At least with her gran, she had some sort of semblance of a family. And she needed that. "What did ya wanna talk to me about?"

He reached for her, pulling her against him so he could wrap one arm around her middle and nuzzle her hair. "We've never really gotten a chance for it to just be us to."

Warning bells sounded in Moonshine's head. There was absolutely no right way to answer this question. He blinked at her, then sighed. "It...it was just sex, Rosie. It didn't mean anything, and I forgot about it almost as soon as it happened."

"That's too bad. If you're going to have sex with a girl besides the one you're interested in, it should at least be worth it," she said. She sounded serious, and she kind of thought she actually was. It made sense though, didn't it?

He sighed. Objectively speaking, of course the sex had been good. But he would never in a million lifetimes ever say that to Rose. But he wasn't lying when he said it had meant nothing. He hugged her against him. "Yer right. It wasn't worth it, baby. Not when it meant I almost lost you."
